Job Description:

MPS is seeking a hands‑on, technically exceptional Software Engineer to support the software strategy, architecture, and execution for our Building Automation Systems product line. The Building Automation Systems (BAS) group develops integrated hardware, firmware, and software platforms that power next‑generation commercial building controls, energy management systems, and intelligent automation technologies.

This candidate will own the full tech stack—from software, to embedded firmware and device connectivity to cloud services, data pipelines, and user‑facing applications.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in high‑performance hardware‑plus‑software environments, understands real‑time control systems, and can scale a platform that integrates IoT devices, sensors, gateways, cloud analytics, and building‑level automation workflows.

You will shape the software direction of MPS’s Kinexis Smart Building Automation platform, build and mentor a world‑class engineering team, and partner closely with hardware, product, and systems engineering to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable solutions for commercial buildings worldwide.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership & Architecture

- Own the end‑to‑end architecture of the platform ecosystem, including software, embedded firmware, device communication protocols, cloud services, data pipelines, and user applications.
- Define and enforce architectural standards for reliability, security, scalability, and long‑term maintainability.
- Drive innovation in real‑time control, sensor fusion, energy optimization algorithms, and building‑level automation logic.
- Build, mentor, and scale a high‑performing software engineering organization.

Execution & Delivery

- Provide hands‑on technical leadership while guiding teams across embedded, cloud, and application layers.
- Oversee development of mission‑critical firmware for controllers, sensors, and power modules used in building automation systems.
- Ensure high‑quality engineering delivery through strong CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and performance monitoring practices.
- Partner with internal and external teams to ensure seamless integration between platform components, modules, and third party interfaces.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

- Work closely with hardware, firmware, systems engineering, product, QA, manufacturing, and field engineering teams.
- Translate customer requirements, building‑automation standards, and regulatory constraints into robust software solutions.
- Support key customer engagements, technical deep dives, and strategic partnerships.

Quality, Security & Compliance

- Ensure platform reliability, cybersecurity, and data integrity across all BAS software components.
- Lead efforts around secure boot, encrypted communication, OTA update security, and compliance with building‑automation standards.
- Drive continuous improvement in system robustness, fault tolerance, and long‑term maintainability.

Qualifications:

Required

- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 5+ years in a senior technical leadership role.
- Proven experience building and scaling complex, multi‑layered platforms (software + embedded + cloud + applications).
- Strong background in embedded systems, real‑time firmware, IoT connectivity, and device‑to‑cloud architectures.
- Expertise with modern cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or equivalent) and scalable backend design.
- Experience with communication protocols common in building automation (BACnet, Modbus, MQTT, BLE, Zigbee, or similar).
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, influence cross‑functional stakeholders, and deliver high‑reliability systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.

Preferred

- Experience in building automation, industrial controls, energy management, or IoT device ecosystems.
- Familiarity with power electronics, sensor systems, or hardware‑software co‑design.
- Experience with OTA update systems, device provisioning, and secure embedded architectures.
- Prior leadership in high‑growth or hardware‑centric technology companies.
- Master’s degree in engineering or related discipline.
