About this role
Who we are looking for
State Street Alpha is seeking an innovative, technology-forward Assistant Vice President to support the modernization of the technology, workflows, and ways of working that underpin Alpha delivery .
This role will support Alpha’s continued evolution to a connected, transparent and increasingly AI-powered system of work, where teams collaborate in the open, work is captured and managed through a single source of truth, and automation handles repetitive coordination so employees can focus on judgment, problem solving and higher-value activities.
This role will help turn that vision into reality. The successful candidate will work across Alpha business teams, Technology, Automation, enterprise partners and strategic vendors to assess how work is performed today, identify opportunities to simplify and digitize it, evaluate technology solutions, and help implement scalable capabilities that improve productivity, transparency, quality and the employee experience.
This is not simply a technology implementation role. We are looking for someone who is curious about how work happens, willing to challenge established practices, comfortable working across business and technology, and passionate about using modern platforms, automation and AI to fundamentally improve how organizations operate.
The individual will combine strategic thinking with hands-on execution and will help build the foundation for Alpha's next-generation operating model.
What you will be responsible for
As AVP, Alpha Technology Modernization & Digital Transformation , you will:
Technology Modernization & Platform Strategy
- Support the assessment and rationalization of Alpha's technology ecosystem, identifying opportunities to simplify the tool landscape, eliminate overlapping solutions and improve integration across platforms.
- Help define and execute a platform-first technology strategy that favors configurable enterprise capabilities over standalone point solutions and unnecessary custom development.
- Evaluate technology platforms and capabilities against business requirements, including workflow management, collaboration, knowledge management, process automation, analytics and AI.
- Develop structured build-versus-buy assessments considering business value, time-to-market, total cost of ownership, reuse, integration, security, scalability and supportability.
- Partner with internal technology teams and vendors to translate Alpha business requirements into scalable technology solutions.
The modernization strategy specifically calls for moving from legacy tools and one-off builds toward a unified platform model with reusable components, real-time visibility and self-service.
Workflow Digitization & Process Re-engineering
- Work directly with Alpha teams to discover, document and deconstruct end-to-end workflows , identifying manual activities, fragmented handoffs, duplicate work and opportunities for standardization.
- Build and maintain an inventory of Alpha workflows and modernization opportunities.
- Translate business processes into structured digital workflows with defined triggers, outcomes, owners, dependencies, data and supporting knowledge.
- Identify opportunities to move work away from email, meetings, spreadsheets and other unstructured channels into governed, trackable workflows.
- Design future-state experiences that provide appropriate intake, triage, prioritization, routing, execution and status visibility.
This directly supports the target System of Work envisioned in a vision for Tool Modernization which includes governed intake followed by triage, enrichment, distribution and action, supported by systems of engagement, intelligence and record.
AI & Intelligent Automation
- Identify and assess opportunities to apply AI, intelligent workflow automation, low-code/no-code capabilities, RPA and other digital technologies to reduce manual effort.
- Help establish and maintain a prioritized inventory of AI and automation use cases across Alpha.
- Evaluate use cases based on business value, complexity, scalability, reuse and expected return.
- Promote AI as an embedded capability within workflow rather than a standalone technology solution.
- Work with business and technology SMEs to determine where human judgment should remain in the process and where work can be automated or handled by exception.
- Support experimentation, proofs of concept and pilots that demonstrate measurable business value.
The underlying modernization framework prioritizes native configuration and no-code first, followed by low-code workflow, AI/copilots, RPA/integration and custom development as a last resort, with ROI and TCO considered throughout.
Technology Evaluation & Vendor Management
- Coordinate structured evaluations of strategic technology platforms and vendor capabilities.
- Define use cases, requirements, evaluation criteria and scorecards that enable fact-based comparison of alternatives.
- Organize demonstrations, proofs of concept and pilots using common business scenarios.
- Partner with strategic vendors and system integrators while ensuring that Alpha owns its requirements, architecture and business outcomes .
- Identify opportunities to leverage existing State Street technology investments before introducing new platforms or custom solutions.
- Monitor vendor commitments, deliverables and value realization.
The vision explicitly shifts the vendor model away from SI-led point solutions toward internal platform ownership, with partners configuring and extending capabilities within Alpha's architecture.
Data, Measurement & Business Case Development
- Establish baseline measures for targeted workflows, including manual effort, cycle time, handoffs, rework and other relevant measures.
- Develop business cases and value assessments for proposed modernization initiatives.
- Define KPIs to measure adoption, productivity improvement, automation and realized value.
- Develop executive dashboards and reporting that provide transparent visibility into modernization demand, delivery progress, risks and outcomes.
- Use data and process insights to continuously identify the next highest-value opportunities.
Alpha's target culture calls for moving toward governed data, process mining, measurable automation and transparent costs and issues.
Transformation Execution & Change Leadership
- Drive modernization initiatives from initial problem definition through assessment, solution design, pilot and implementation.
- Coordinate across Alpha business teams, Technology, Automation, Risk, Information Security and other enterprise stakeholders.
- Maintain clear roadmaps, backlogs, dependencies, decision points and milestones for modernization efforts.
- Develop reusable standards, playbooks, templates and methods that allow successful solutions to scale across Alpha.
- Support adoption of new technology and ways of working through communications, demonstrations, training and targeted enablement.
- Champion a culture of reuse before rebuild, technology before additional manual capacity, transparency over offline coordination, and data-driven decision making .
