About this role

Job Title: Mechanical Designer Job Description
This role is ideal for a mechanically minded designer who wants to contribute across the entire product lifecycle, from initial concept and 3D design through manufacturing support and project execution. You will use SOLIDWORKS or comparable 3D CAD tools to develop custom equipment solutions while managing multiple projects and collaborating closely with sales, manufacturing, and production teams. The position emphasizes engineering-focused design rather than drafting, and offers a clear path into senior and technical leadership roles based on performance and project ownership.
Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design efforts for custom equipment solutions using SOLIDWORKS or comparable 3D CAD software.
- Own projects from concept through detailed design, documentation, and manufacturing support.
- Translate customer and sales requirements into practical, manufacturable mechanical designs.
- Create, review, and update 3D models and engineering drawings that support fabrication and assembly.
- Apply mechanical design principles and understanding of manufacturing processes to ensure designs are robust, cost-effective, and efficient to produce.
- Support fabrication, assembly, and production teams on the shop floor by resolving design questions and addressing manufacturing issues.
- Collaborate closely with sales, manufacturing, production, and operations teams to align design solutions with project goals and timelines.
- Manage multiple concurrent projects and competing priorities while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines.
- Interface with customers, sales teams, or production personnel to clarify requirements, gather feedback, and refine design solutions.
- Utilize GD&T principles where applicable to define critical dimensions and tolerances on engineering drawings.
- Contribute to project planning and coordination within a manufacturing environment, including status updates and risk identification.
- Participate in mentorship activities, progressively taking on larger and more complex project responsibilities over the first 36 months.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency with SOLIDWORKS or comparable 3D CAD software for mechanical design.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and solid understanding of manufacturing processes.
- 35 years of experience in mechanical design, manufacturing, or product engineering.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities effectively.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a practical, hands-on approach to resolving design and manufacturing issues.
- Ability to work onsite in a manufacturing environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience supporting fabrication, assembly, or custom equipment manufacturing.
- Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and its practical application.
- Experience interfacing directly with customers, sales teams, or production personnel.
- Project management experience within a manufacturing environment, including coordination of tasks and timelines.
- Interest in growing into senior Engineer, Lead Engineer, or technical leadership roles.
- Desire to work in a highly collaborative engineering team and contribute to continuous improvement.
Work Environment
You will work in a dynamic environment that blends office-based engineering with hands-on manufacturing support. Approximately 6070% of your time will focus on engineering design and project work in an office setting, using 3D CAD tools and collaborating with the engineering team. The remaining 3040% will be spent on the shop floor providing manufacturing and production support, interacting directly with fabrication and assembly personnel. The engineering department operates in a highly collaborative manner, working closely with sales and operations teams to deliver custom equipment solutions. The organization offers a defined career path with advancement opportunities into senior Engineer, Lead Engineer, and other technical leadership roles, with progression based on performance, capability, and project ownership rather than tenure. New hires receive structured mentorship and gradually take on larger and more complex projects over their first 36 months.
