About this role

At Reality Labs we aim to bring together the brightest cross-disciplinary minds in one place to deliver on our mission: build tools that help people feel connected, anytime, anywhere.

As a Thermal Design Engineering Intern, you will take a critical role in developing systems for VR, AR, Smart Glasses and Wearables, or New Technology Initiatives. You will be part of a team exploring and developing consumer electronics products over the full lifecycle, from prototypes to mass-production. You will work as part of a cross functional team requiring collaboration and curiosity in domains inside and outside thermal engineering.

Our ideal candidate has strong heat-transfer fundamentals, is familiar with CFD theory with some fluency in tools, experienced in developing thermal/analytical models from first-principles, and testing.

This is a 12 week internship.

Responsibilities

Develop physics-based thermal models using programming languages such as MatLAB, Python, or Julia
Develop part and sub-system thermal models using CFD and CAD tools
Develop and optimize thermal designs while integrating new thermal technologies through partnering with mechanical and electrical engineers
Support sub-system and system-level thermal verification through prototype testing
Support the development of thermal control systems while building prototypes to test on physical HW

Qualifications

Currently working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with focus on Heat-Transfer / Thermodynamics
Background in modeling using CAD and CFD tools
Experience in running thermal tests using thermocouples
Experience in programming with a scripting language such as MatLab, Python, or Julia, to support development of models and automation tools
Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
Intent to return to full-time degree program after completion of the internship Working towards a Masters or PhD with focus on Heat Transfer
Experience developing analytical, physics-based thermal models
Familiar with control theory
Experienced in developing physical prototypes of consumer-electronics devices
Familiar with thermal materials, such as graphite spreaders, aerogels, thermal interface materials, heatpipes, vapor-chambers, and fans
