- Ensure import and export activities comply with applicable international trade regulations, including HTS tariff classification, Incoterms and relevant biosafety requirements.
- Follow established SOPs and work instructions, ensuring shipping documentation and operational records are accurate, complete and maintained in accordance with company procedures.
- Investigate and resolve shipment discrepancies, customs delays, documentation errors and delivery issues, escalating risks where necessary to minimise operational disruption.
- Coordinate the preparation and dispatch of temperature-sensitive and cryogenic shipments, ensuring packaging, documentation and transport arrangements meet applicable requirements.
- Support the business with export requirements and identify opportunities for process improvement.
- Collaborate with the Procurement and Stores teams to ensure adequate stocks of logistics consumables are maintained.
- Work with the Inventory team to retrieve and store vials in cryogenic storage for scientific use and shipment preparation, ensuring inventory movements are accurately recorded.
- Collaborate with internal departments, international suppliers, freight forwarders, customs brokers and third-party warehouses to ensure efficient and timely logistics operations.
- Ensure inventory transactions, shipment tracking information and goods movements are accurately recorded in the relevant ERP and inventory management systems.
- Monitor changes in international logistics requirements and adapt shipping arrangements to meet evolving customs, regulatory and customer-specific requirements.
- Identify opportunities to streamline import and export processes, reduce costs and improve delivery reliability.
Qualifications:
- Secondary education or a Level 3 qualification (e.g. A-levels, BTECs or equivalent), with an interest in developing a career in logistics, import and export operations, international business or a related field.
- Previous experience in import and export logistics, preferably within the biotechnology, pharmaceutical or life sciences sector, is desirable.
- Knowledge of international shipping regulations, customs procedures and trade compliance is desirable.
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g. SAP or Microsoft Dynamics 365) and courier or logistics tracking systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
- Ability to adapt to frequent changes in the international logistics landscape.
- Good problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to resolving operational issues.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a team.
