About this role

Description

Amazon Leo is Amazon's initiative to provide fast, affordable broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world through a constellation of low Earth orbit satellites. In this role you will serve as the APAC Regional Lead for the Law Enforcement Response and Intercept (LER-I) program as we ramp up service in Australia and beyond. You will own the operational execution of LER-I in Australia and across APAC, and you will lead the business strategy for expanding the program into new markets, legal entities, and jurisdictions. You will represent Amazon Leo with regulators on licensing and policy matters, and you will support business development partners in structuring deals and business models that depend on LER-I compliance. You must obsess over internal and external customers, and communicate clearly to both technical and executive audiences.
This role serves as a primary point of contact for law enforcement and regulators in Australia. To meet this requirement, you must hold, or be capable of attaining, Australian national defense security clearances for this role.
This position may require access to information, technology, or hardware that is subject to export control laws and regulations, including the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Employment in this position is contingent upon obtaining any required export licenses or other approvals from the United States government. As such, the successful candidate must be eligible to obtain any necessary export licenses or approvals based on their nationality, citizenship, and any other factors considered by the applicable export control regulations.

Key job responsibilities
* Own operational delivery of LER-I in Australia: intake, data sourcing, legal assurance, and decisioning of law enforcement and lawful intercept requests, meeting regulatory guidelines at speed and at scale.
* Lead APAC strategy for expanding LER-I capability into new Amazon Leo legal entities, countries, and jurisdictions, in direct support of Amazon Leo's business expansion priorities.
* Serve as a primary point of contact with regulators across APAC for licensure, ongoing inquiries, investigations, and audits.
* Partner with business development teams on deals and commercial agreements across APAC, assessing and structuring the LER-I compliance implications of new business models, partnerships, and market entries.
* Build and manage relationships with internal stakeholders (legal, policy, engineering, other regional LER leads) and external partners (law enforcement agencies, regulators, telecom partners) to align on strategy and expand program reach.
* Identify program risks and gaps and bring forward sound, data-backed recommendations to resolve them.

A day in the life
As the APAC Regional Lead you will split your time between operational decisions and business strategy. On the operational side, you will decision law enforcement and lawful intercept requests, manage data provision and legal assurance. On the strategy side, you will evaluate new markets and business models for LER-I readiness, join business development deal discussions to flag or resolve compliance requirements, and build the APAC roadmap for standing up LER-I capability in new jurisdictions ahead of launch. You will represent LER-I in cross-functional reviews with Amazon Leo's business development, legal, and policy teams, and you will communicate progress and risk directly to regional and global leadership.
