Reporting to the Senior Director, Commercial Legal, based in the UK, you will lead a team of four to five lawyers while remaining a key individual contributor.

You will serve as the team’s escalation point while negotiating and closing strategic deals. The ideal candidate is an experienced technology commercial lawyer and proven people leader who thrives in a collaborative environment and stays closely connected to the business.

What You’ll Do

- Partner closely with your EMEA counterpart to drive consistency across contracting positions, templates, playbooks, and processes, while sharing knowledge, best practices, and workload across regions.

- Negotiate and close a significant portfolio of complex, high-value agreements, including software, SaaS, BaaS, professional services, and channel transactions, partnering directly with Sales, Deal Desk, and other key stakeholders.

- Provide clear, practical, and commercially focused legal advice, balancing legal, regulatory, privacy, and commercial considerations with the needs of the business.

- Lead, coach, and develop the Americas Commercial Legal team, setting clear expectations, supporting professional growth, and addressing performance or people matters promptly and constructively.

- Build strong partnerships with Sales and sales leadership, developing a clear understanding of pipeline and business priorities to ensure the team has visibility across transactions and focuses resources where they will have the greatest impact.

- Develop and deliver training and practical guidance that enables Sales and other stakeholders to navigate contracting processes effectively and efficiently.

- Serve as the escalation point for complex, high-risk, or novel commercial matters, providing guidance while empowering team members to maintain ownership, and keeping Commercial Legal leadership informed of significant matters, emerging trends, and resourcing needs.

- Foster a positive, collaborative culture across the global Commercial Legal team and champion continuous improvement in how the team operates, partners with the business, and delivers results.

What You’ll Bring

- Qualified lawyer admitted to practice in at least one U.S. state, with 12+ years of post-qualification experience gained at a leading law firm and/or in-house, including significant in-house experience within a software or technology company.

- Proven people leadership experience, with a track record of managing, coaching, and developing lawyers.

- Extensive hands-on experience negotiating and closing complex software and SaaS agreements in a fast-paced sales environment, with a desire to remain actively involved in transactions.

- Exceptional drafting and negotiation skills, with demonstrated experience partnering closely with Sales and other business stakeholders in the technology sector.

- Experience advising on privacy and data protection matters arising in commercial technology transactions.

- You will be a collaborative, team-oriented leader who views success as shared, contributes effectively as part of a broader leadership team, and brings a global perspective beyond their own region.

- Strong commercial judgment and the confidence to make pragmatic, risk-based decisions, including in situations where there may be limited precedent.

- Flexible, creative, and solutions-oriented, with the ability to balance the needs of Sales with appropriate legal and business risk, while exercising sound judgment on when to escalate.

- A credible and supportive leader who leads by example, effectively balancing a significant personal caseload with team leadership as business priorities evolve.

- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to simplify complex legal issues, provide clear and practical guidance, and challenge stakeholders constructively.
