About this role
PURPOSE AND SCOPE
The Human Resources Generalist functions as a vital, autonomous human resource partner within Amentum's Corporate Human Resources Department, specifically assigned to provide dedicated, high-level operational support to the Facilities Operations & Maintenance (O&M) and asset infrastructure programs at the Joint Defence Facility Pine Gap. Operating within a highly complex, dual-jurisdiction matrix environment (Australia and the United States), this role delivers comprehensive, professional human resources advice, casework management, and program administration.
The HR Generalist moves beyond basic workflow processing to independently execute Employee Relations (ER) triage, policy application, and management coaching for program leadership. By overseeing personnel data systems, auditing contract variabilities, and actively advising contract directors on local labor-management strategies, this position directly secures program-wide continuity of business and insulates critical defense infrastructure operations from organizational or industrial risk.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
This position reports to an HR Manager or Deputy Manager for work task guidance, prioritization, mentoring, and professional development needs.
WORK SCHEDULE
Day shift – 5 days per week, 8 hours per day (Contracted 40 hours per week) as standard to align with business and workforce needs. This professional position requires autonomous time-management, with flexible working hours expected to resolve complex employee relations actions or fulfill strategic program milestones.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Employee and Industrial Relations Management: Provide professional, front-line advice and coaching to team supervisors and managers regarding policy interpretation, basic entitlements, performance improvement plans, and employee grievances. Assist program leadership with localized industrial relations planning, information tracking, and business continuity strategy tied to Enterprise Agreement (EA) renewal cycles.

- Dual Jurisdiction Compensation Audits: Overlook the execution and local compliance of benefits tracking systems for US expatriate/TDY personnel and superannuation-choice alignments for Australian employees, auditing files to identify and correct data variances.
- Data Integrity & Audit Ownership: Act as the primary local compliance owner for all AU and US HRIS and payroll-adjacent data entry fields. Ensure absolute file readiness and data accuracy to satisfy strict company policy, statutory workplace laws, and rigorous government defense audit frameworks.
- Process Improvement & Policy Customization: Evaluate, design, and update local HR standard operating procedures (SOPs), onboarding packages, and localized workplace policies to ensure clear alignment with evolving regional legislation and site operational changes.
- Records Security & Confidentiality: Maintain total operational security and absolute discretion when handling, reviewing, and archiving highly sensitive personnel, commercial-in-confidence documentation, or labor relations strategy files.
- Safety & Compliance Leadership: Actively promote Amentum’s corporate safety culture and drug-free workplace standards, ensuring all workforce practices comply fully with environmental and Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) codes.
