About this role
Description
Job Description: Should have a minimum of 5-8 years industry experience.
Excellent network experience with the rollout of large DWDM networks and Optical network technologies, and experience with optical planning and modelling tools. Experience with the rollout and operations of large DWDM networks and Optical network technologies.
Experience troubleshooting DWDM/Optical systems
Excellent network analysis fundamentals and robust troubleshooting skills.
Top 3 must have skills:
1. DWDM/Optical Network Systems Experience - Direct hands-on experience deploying and operating high-capacity DWDM systems is non-negotiable given the scale and the critical nature of interconnecting AWS data centers globally.
2. Network Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving - The ability to diagnose and resolve Optical DWDM network issues is essential for maintaining the high availability and reliability that AWS customers demand, especially given the operational on-call responsibilities.
3. Project Management/Time Management - Strong organizational skills help contractors balance multiple responsibilities across product development, operations, and strategic initiatives, though this can be developed with team support.
Nice to haves:
1. Automation Scripting (Python/Bash/Shell/Perl) - scripting capabilities are critical for operational load reduction and scaling the network efficiently, as the team explicitly focuses on automating activities and driving operational excellence.
2. Network Design and Architecture - Understanding of network topology design and protocols helps contractors contribute to scaling discussions and new design implementations, though they can learn AWS-specific patterns on the job.
3. Cross-Platform Integration Experience - Familiarity with integrating hardware and software across different platforms accelerates their ability to work on the diverse product portfolio (commodity and OEM optical platforms).
