The opportunity
Financial crime prevention is an increasingly vital aspect of protecting both customers and the business. In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead day-to-day operations, develop a team of Analysts, and enhance the identification, investigation, and management of financial crime risk across Netwealth.
Positioned within Customer Operations and reporting to the Head of Financial Crime Operations, you will blend people leadership with hands-on operational management across areas such as AML/CTF, fraud and scam prevention, screening, due diligence, transaction monitoring, and investigations.
As Manager, you will lead an operational team responsible for delivering high-quality financial crime outcomes within agreed service levels, regulatory requirements, and risk appetite.
You will manage workflow and capacity, oversee complex cases and escalations, strengthen quality and control measures, and turn operational data into meaningful improvements.
You will also collaborate closely with teams across Risk, Compliance, Legal, Technology, Product, Distribution, and the broader Customer Operations function.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead the day-to-day delivery of Financial Crime Operations, setting priorities and allocating work across the function.
- Lead, coach and develop Analysts, with clear objectives, regular feedback, development planning and performance management.
- Manage workflow, capacity and emerging backlogs while maintaining service and quality standards.
- Oversee complex cases and escalations, making and documenting sound risk-based decisions and escalating material risks appropriately.
- Strengthen quality across investigations, decision-making and documentation through quality assurance, calibration and feedback.
- Monitor operational performance and use data to identify trends and improve productivity, controls, detection effectiveness and customer outcomes.
- Drive continuous improvement and control uplift, including process optimisation, remediation and opportunities for automation.
- Support projects and change through operational readiness, testing, procedures, training and transition into business-as-usual operations.
What you'll bring
- At least four years’ experience in financial crime operations, including experience across AML/CTF, fraud and scams, risk or compliance within financial services.
- Demonstrated people leadership experience, including coaching, performance management, workload prioritisation and capability development.
- Strong working knowledge of AML/CTF obligations and operational practices across customer due diligence, screening, transaction monitoring and investigations.
- A practical understanding of fraud and scam risks, operational controls and customer impact.
- Experience managing operational performance against service levels, quality measures, risk appetite and regulatory requirements.
- Strong investigation and judgement skills, including managing complex escalations and documenting risk-based decisions.
- The ability to interpret operational data and turn insights into practical workflow, process, control and capability improvements.
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to work effectively with senior stakeholders and cross-functional partners.
Nice to have
Experience applying financial crime controls within investment, superannuation or wealth management, including exposure to trade monitoring, would be valuable.
Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or professional financial crime certification are also desirable rather than mandatory.
What does success look like?
You’ll be creating an operation where work is completed to agreed service and quality standards, capacity risks are identified early, complex matters are handled with clear judgement, decisions are well documented, and the team's technical capability continues to grow
You’ll also be expected to turn operational insights into measurable improvements across efficiency, quality, controls and customer outcomes.
If you’ve built your financial crime expertise in an operational environment and are ready to combine that knowledge with meaningful people leadership, this is an opportunity to help shape and strengthen Financial Crime Operations at Netwealth.
