Asphalt Lab Technician

Mō te tūranga | About the role

We’re looking for an Asphalt Laboratory Technician to join our team in Palmerston North. This is a hands-on role where you’ll support the testing and reporting of asphalt and pavement materials to ensure we deliver good work safely, on time, and to a high standard.

You’ll be trusted to collect samples, carry out compliant laboratory testing, and help keep our equipment, methods, and results sharp. It’s a role for someone who likes practical work, takes pride in quality, and wants to keep learning in a team that’s flat, friendly, and serious when it counts.

Ngā tino kawenga mahi | Key role responsibilities

- Collect samples and complete asphalt and materials testing in line with required specifications and Fulton Hogan lab IANZ requirements.
- Maintain equipment checks and calibration so the laboratory runs safely, accurately, and efficiently.
- Analyse results and provide clear reporting for relevant focus areas and clients.
- Follow all safety, environmental, and quality processes, and speak up when something is not right.
- Stay up to date with pavement design, pavement delivery, and pavement product technologies, while contributing ideas to improve the way we work.

Kei te kimi mātou i tētahi e whai ana i ēnei pūkenga | We’re looking for someone with

- Experience in civil or asphalt materials testing, or strong technical capability with a willingness to learn.
- Good planning, self-management, and computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
- An understanding of quality assurance, with ISO17025 knowledge preferred.
- A Full Class 1 driver licence and the ability to carry out the inherent requirements of the role, including some lifting within safe limits.
- A practical, reliable, team-focused approach, with a strong commitment to safety, learning, and doing good work.
