About this role

Batch Robotics is revolutionizing how robots operate in factories — not through rigid programming or teaching by human demonstration, but with smart perception and AI intelligence. We are a team of 8 motivated people with 50 years of experience in industry and robotics. Our mission is to make robots smarter and more flexible, enabling batch-size-1 automation for surface treatment economically. Our technology helps factories in Europe to remain competitive with intelligent robotics.

We are now looking for a Forward Deployed Robotics Engineer / Application Engineer (m/f/d) with technical excellence and entrepreneurial drive to take full ownership of our physical systems and lower-level control interfaces — and to bring them to life at our customers' factories — mostly in Germany, Austria and Switzerland (DACH) for now, later across Central Europe. Around 60% of your working time you will be on the road, installing, commissioning and improving our systems on site.

Tasks

Customer Installations (approx. 60% travel, mainly DACH): Install, commission and hand over Batch Robotics systems at customer sites — currently mostly in the DACH region, later across Central Europe — typically trips of one day up to one week, from first site survey to final acceptance.

Application Engineering: Analyse the customer's parts, factory process and production line, define the cell layout and integration concept, and adapt our system to each new application.

Forward Engineering: Be the team's eyes, ears and hands at the customer: debug and fix issues directly on the factory floor, collect real-world data and feed field learnings back into our product, vision and ML teams.

Commissioning, Acceptance & Training: Run on-site tests and acceptance (FAT/SAT), train operators and maintenance staff, and provide hands-on support after go-live.

Hardware & CAD: Design all physical hardware like mounts or adapters around standard cobots and cameras in CAD.

Sourcing & Logistics: Evaluate, select, and order the right mechanical and electrical components from suitable suppliers to meet design specifications, budgets, and timelines. Manage production and logistics of our system hardware, including shipping systems to customer sites.

Assembly, Testing & On-Site Deployment: Physically assemble, wire, and test hardware prototypes and production systems in our lab in Munich and in factories.

Factory Integration: Integrate our systems with the factory's existing manufacturing infrastructure and processing tools (e.g., process equipment, conveyors, welding equipment, PLCs).

Lower-Level Software Development: Develop and test robust lower-level software interfaces and establish reliable communications with robots, sensors, and actors.

Requirements

Travel (must-have): You are willing and able to travel around 60% of your working time — mainly within DACH for now, later also across Central Europe, and you hold a valid driving licence (class B).

Background (must-have): Degree in mechatronics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, robotics, or a related field with strong cross-disciplinary knowledge, plus at least 3 years of professional experience.

Field & Commissioning Experience: Hands-on experience installing, commissioning or servicing robots or automation systems at customer sites (e.g., as commissioning, application, field service or integration engineer) is a strong plus.

Mechanical & CAD Proficiency: Proven practical experience in 3D CAD modeling, structural design, and understanding of manufacturing processes and component sourcing.

Hands-On & Field Mindset: A true builder who enjoys working with physical tools, assembling hardware in the lab, wiring components, 3D printing — and who gets energy from being on the factory floor with customers.

Lower-Level Software & Industrial Communication: Solid background in lower-level software development in x64 architectures for automation components, with practical experience using industrial communication fieldbuses and middleware.

Languages (must-have): German at C2 level and fluent English; Italian, Spanish or French is a plus.

Soft Skills: Entrepreneurial drive, solution-oriented mindset, high agency, a confident and friendly way of dealing with customers, and the ability to take end-to-end responsibility from day one in a fast-paced startup environment.

Benefits

Real Impact on European Manufacturing: Your work goes straight into real factories. Every system you install helps a European manufacturer automate batch-size-1 production, takes repetitive and dangerous work off people's shoulders, and keeps production competitive here in Europe instead of moving it abroad. Industrial sovereignty you can see and touch.

Customer Proximity: You are the face of Batch Robotics at our customers and see first-hand how your work changes real factories in DACH and beyond.

Growth: Challenging tasks and impactful projects alongside experts in a high-growth VC-funded startup.

Ownership: Direct opportunity to actively shape the company's technical direction, deployment process and hardware strategy.

Environment: A modern, central workspace and robot lab in Munich with a collaborative, international culture. All travel costs are covered by us.

Want to help keep manufacturing strong in Europe — right where it happens on the factory floor?

We look forward to meeting you!
