About this role

Hybrid: 2 days per week in our Tower Bridge office and 1 time per month to our Fleet office

Tempcover is at the forefront of the fast-growing world of short-term insurance. Our mission is to make car insurance flexible, quick, and easy for drivers. We've sold millions of policies that have helped drivers get where they need to go, but we're not finished there. We're growing our team to help us continue in that mission. If you are extraordinary at what you do and want to be a part of a rapidly growing business at the cutting edge of the InsureTech industry, we would love to hear from you!"

### About the role
The Risk Pricing Lead is a new, hands-on role in our Pricing & Underwriting department, created to build and manage Tempcover's risk pricing capability. You'll build and manage models built from the claims and policy data that we hold and own the commercial benefit that these models deliver when live.

What you'll be doing

You'll join our Underwriting & Pricing Department, developing the pricing models and portfolio insight that help us achieve target loss ratios, while supporting profitable growth.

- Build and maintain frequency, severity and burn cost models using Tempcover's claims and policy data
- Assess data quality and fitness for purpose, and decide what can be reliably modelled. Lead feature selection, segmentation and model validation, documenting assumptions and limitations clearly
- Price effectively where volumes are low, claims are immature or history is limited, using credibility techniques, external data, benchmarks and expert judgement
- Take on the commercial management of the pricing models once live, monitoring lead metrics, identifying emerging trends and analysing portfolio mix
- Recommend and drive pricing, rating and underwriting changes that balance profitability, growth and customer outcomes
- Run regular performance reviews and contribute to pricing and underwriting governance
- Work closely with Engineering, Data and Product teams to implement models effectively within our pricing infrastructure
- Present technical pricing insights to senior stakeholders and our insurer partners in a clear, commercially focused way
- Support regulatory compliance, ensuring pricing approaches align with FCA expectations on fairness, fair value and Consumer Duty
- Mentor and support junior analysts where applicable

What we're looking for

- Strong, hands-on experience building pricing or risk models, including data assessment, feature selection, segmentation and model validation
- Proven ability to make defensible pricing decisions where data volumes are low or history is limited and traditional modelling approaches don't fit
- Experience owning pricing beyond launch: identifying lead metrics, understanding emerging trends, analysing mix and recommending changes
- Experience in UK General Insurance, ideally motor, with a background at an insurer, MGA, consultancy or broker with delegated authority
- Advanced analytical skills including experience using Python or R for modelling or analysis is desirable
- Experience with pricing or modelling software such as Emblem or Radar is desirable
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex pricing findings to non-technical stakeholders, senior leaders and external partners
- Strong commercial acumen and a pragmatic mindset, focused on actionable insight over theoretical perfection
- Collaborative mindset, keen to support others and learn from them
