About this opportunity:
Network simulations support planning, performance evaluation, and algorithm development, but configuring them can require detailed knowledge of simulator parameters, dependencies, and execution procedures. This thesis will explore how local large language models (LLMs) and collaborating AI agents can make simulation workflows easier to use and automate.
You will develop a proof of concept that turns natural-language descriptions of network scenarios and study objectives into validated configurations for a Python-based radio simulator. The project will be carried out with Ericsson’s BNEW network simulations team in collaboration with a university, alongside engineers and researchers in radio networks, simulation, and AI/ML.
What you will do:
- Study the Python-based simulator, its parameters, dependencies, interfaces, and execution process.
- Design a multi-agent workflow for interpreting user requirements, planning scenarios, generating and validating configurations, running simulations, and analyzing results.
- Build a proof of concept that lets users create and modify simulation scenarios using natural language.
- Explore a closed-loop process where agents use results or execution errors to refine configurations and rerun simulations when appropriate.
- Evaluate correctness, success rate, error recovery, alignment with user intent, execution time, computational requirements, and human involvement.
- Where feasible, compare the multi-agent approach with a single-LLM baseline and identify tasks that still require human expertise.
The skills you bring:
- You are pursuing an MSc in Wireless Networks, computer science, machine learning or related field.
- You have a strong background in Python.
- You are interested in AI/ML, LLMs, AI agents, and workflow automation; prior experience is beneficial.
- You are curious about both the capabilities of AI and where human oversight remains important.
- You can work independently and collaboratively, conduct technical studies, and communicate results clearly in spoken and written English.
- You are proactive, analytical, and comfortable preparing a thesis proposal, report, and presentation.
