About this role
The PXT Communications team sits within Chase's broader PXT and Marketing Communications organization — a dynamic, cross-functional group dedicated to advancing Chase's reputation as a technology-forward, customer-obsessed company. The team partners closely with product, engineering, design, data, and marketing leaders to ensure that Chase's investments in innovation are understood, celebrated, and accurately represented in the public narrative.
As an External Communications Vice President within Consumer and Community Banking you will support the communications strategy for its Product & Experience and Technology (PXT) group. This senior role is responsible for shaping and leading the earned media strategy that brings Chase's most consequential product and technology stories to life — translating complex innovation into compelling narratives that resonate with consumers, press, and the broader public. You will operate with equal fluency in technology, financial services, and modern media, and who thrives at the intersection of brand, journalism, and business strategy. This is a high-visibility function with direct exposure to senior leadership and enterprise-wide strategic priorities.
Job responsibilities
- Own the development and execution of a proactive, integrated earned media strategy for Chase's product and technology portfolio.
- Identify and pursue high-impact media opportunities, building a robust pipeline of story angles, and ensuring consistent, strategic message delivery across national, trade, and emerging media
- Anticipate the news cycle, spotting whitespace in the competitive narrative landscape, and positioning Chase as a definitive voice on the future of consumer finance and technology.
- Support Chase's most senior product and technology executives, this includes developing thought leadership platforms, preparing executives for media engagements, events and crafting materials — briefing documents, talking points, op-eds, and press statements — that are authoritative, on-brand, and strategically aligned.
- Cultivate and steward relationships with top-tier technology, business, and consumer finance journalists, editors, and influencers. This requires a genuine understanding of what makes a story compelling in an evolving media landscape and the credibility to engage press as a trusted, reliable source. The role also carries responsibility for issues and reputation management within the PXT scope — providing counsel to leadership and coordinating rapid response when narratives require active management.
- Collaborate with product, engineering, design, legal, compliance, and marketing partners, operate as a strategic communications advisor — embedded in the PXT leadership ecosystem — ensuring communications strategy is integrated early in product development and launch planning, not appended after the fact.
- Set a high bar for craft, strategic thinking, and professional development, foster an inclusive, high-performance culture, mentor emerging talent, and build team capabilities in line with the evolving media landscape, including digital, social, and creator-driven earned channels.
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills:
- 10+ years of progressive experience in communications, public relations, or journalism, with a meaningful portion of that experience in a leadership capacity.
- A demonstrated track record of developing and executing earned media strategies for complex organizations — technology companies, financial institutions, or large consumer brands — is essential.
- Possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills, the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment, and the executive presence to counsel and influence senior leadership with confidence.
- Experience navigating regulated industries and working alongside legal and compliance stakeholders is required.
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills:
- Experience within financial services, fintech, or enterprise technology is strongly preferred, as is a background that includes both in-house communications leadership and agency or media experience.
- Familiarity with the consumer product development lifecycle — and the ability to identify earned media opportunities within it — is a meaningful differentiator.
- Established network of relationships with top-tier business and technology press, and who have led communications through high-profile product launches or corporate reputation moments.
- A bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related discipline
