About this role
Build Something That Matters
When a school goes on lockdown, a hospital calls a code, or an emergency requires immediate communication, Valcom systems help deliver the messages that matter most. For nearly 50 years, we've built the paging, intercom, and emergency communication systems that help keep people informed and safe.
But before those systems can do their job, someone has to build the components that bring them to life. That's where you come in.
As a Machine Operator in our Metal Fabrication department, you'll help turn raw materials into precision-made parts that become essential components of our products. If you enjoy working with your hands, operating machinery, and seeing the results of your work, this could be the opportunity for you.
Why You'll Like It Here
- Four-day work week. Our second shift runs Monday through Thursday, 4:00 pm to 2:30 am, giving you a three-day weekend. Overtime opportunities are frequently available on Fridays.
- Your mornings are yours. Take care of appointments, run errands, or enjoy a slower start to your day before heading to work. Plus, you'll receive a $1.00 per hour shift differential on top of your base wage.
- No CNC experience? That's okay. Previous manufacturing experience is a plus, but we're looking for people with mechanical aptitude, a willingness to learn, and pride in their work. We'll help you develop the skills needed to succeed.
- Learn more than one machine. Our Metal Fabrication department uses a variety of equipment, giving you opportunities to cross-train, build new skills, and become a versatile member of the team.
- A team that knows your name. Valcom has been part of the Roanoke Valley for nearly five decades. We're big enough to make an impact and small enough that you're never just a number.
What You'll Do
You'll operate and maintain manufacturing equipment that transforms raw materials into the metal components used in Valcom products. Every part you produce contributes to the quality and reliability of systems people depend on.
Day to day, that looks like:
- Setting up, operating, and monitoring manufacturing equipment such as CNC machines, press brakes, punches, paint lines, PEM insertion machines, and other production equipment
- Loading machine programs, adjusting settings, and preparing tooling based on work orders and production specifications
- Reading blueprints and drawings and using measuring tools, such as calipers, to verify parts meet quality standards
- Inspecting finished parts, identifying defects, and making adjustments to keep production running smoothly
- Loading and unloading materials while maintaining accurate production records
- Performing routine cleaning, lubrication, basic maintenance, and troubleshooting of equipment
- Working closely with your teammates to meet production goals while maintaining a safe, organized work environment
The Environment
You'll work in our on-site manufacturing facility in Roanoke, Virginia, where you'll operate machinery, handle materials, and help keep production moving.
This is an active, hands-on role with a combination of standing, sitting, bending, and moving between workstations. You'll work around manufacturing equipment where noise levels and temperatures may vary, and you'll use appropriate personal protective equipment to stay safe.
If you enjoy staying busy, solving problems, and taking pride in something you've helped create, you'll feel right at home.
