Insulator

Position Summary: The Insulator will be responsible for applying, removing, and repairing insulation on industrial equipment, pipes, ductwork, or other mechanical systems.

Role and Responsibilities:

- Regular attendance at assigned location that may include office or other project sites

- Insulate building, tanks, vessels, boilers, stream, and hot water pipes, and cold or chilled water pipes

- Measure and cut insulation for covering surfaces, using tape measures, handsaws, knives, and scissors

- Determine amounts and selects required insulation material (in sheet, tubular, or roll form)

- Cover, seal, or finish insulated surfaces or access holes with metal jacketing, plastic covers, canvas strips, sealants, tapes, cement, or mastic

- Fit insulation around obstructions, and shape insulating materials and protective coverings as required

- Prepare surfaces for insulation application by brushing or spreading on adhesives, cement, or asphalt, or by attaching metal pins to surface

- Cover or seal insulation to structure according to type of insulation used and structure covered

- Install sheet metal around insulated equipment to protect the insulation from weather damage

- Perform additional duties as directed by job site foreman, project managers, and supervisors

Qualifications

Essential Skills & Characteristics:

- Ability to work independently or as part of a team

- Follow plans and instructions from supervisors or more experienced workers

- Strict adherence to all safety rules and quality

- Interact with all co-workers and clients in an attentive courteous manner

- At times may perform clerical/administrative duties

- Ability to read and interpret a variety of instructions written, oral, diagram or schedule form

- Ability to read and interpret the safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and manual

Educational & Experience Requirements:

- High School Diploma or relevant field experience

- 3-5 years of experience as an Industrial Mechanical Insulator is preferred

- OSHA 10 certification

- Understanding and development of daily Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)

- Industrial insulation experience preferred
