About this role
The Meta Reality Labs Research Team brings together a world-class team of researchers, developers, and engineers to create the future of contextual AI and robotics. The Surreal Vision group at RL Research is looking for emerging scientists and researchers with interest in novel computational imaging systems and robotics. Our goal is to perform cutting edge research leading to foundational technologies that will underpin Meta's future contextual AI-enabled devices and robots.
Our internships are twelve (12) to twenty-four (24) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year. Some projects may require a minimum of 24 consecutive weeks.
Responsibilities
Create novel systems and components for computational imaging that are efficient and achieve high performance through a combination of optics, sensors, algorithms and machine learning, targeted at contextual AI and robotics sensing applications.
Explore novel and emerging sensing modalities for contextual AI and robotics, and push sensing ability in hard imaging regimes.
Rapidly design, develop, prototype, execute and analyze advanced imaging and perception systems under real-world constraints of latency, power, and form factor.
Collaborate with other researchers and engineers across optics, material, and robotics in a highly cross-functional and interdisciplinary team.
Qualifications
Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a PhD in the field of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Vision, Computational Imaging, Robotics, Machine Learning, or a related field
Demonstrated research experience in Computational Imaging, Computer Vision, Computational Imaging, Robotics, or Machine Learning
Experience working within Python environments such as PyTorch, and experience working in a Unix environment
Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment Ability to commit to 24 consecutive weeks of full-time internship work
Broad understanding of the full sensing pipeline, from optics and sensors through machine learning to high-level machine perception, contextual AI, and robot control
Experience applying imaging or perception systems on robotics applications
Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as publications at leading workshops, conferences or journals such as CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, ICCP, ACM SIGGRAPH, ACM TOG, ICML, NeurIPS, ICLR, ICRA, IROS, RSS, or CoRL
Proven experience building hardware research prototypes in close collaboration with a broad cross functional team
Experience solving complex problems and comparing alternative solutions, tradeoffs, and diverse points of view to determine a path forward
Demonstrated software engineer experience via an internship, work experience, coding competitions, or widely used contributions in open source repositories (e.g. GitHub)
Experience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environment
Intent to return to a degree program after the completion of the internship/co-op
