About this role

Tesla's Vehicle Engineering department is composed of thousands of the world's best vehicle, battery, and manufacturing engineers. These engineers are responsible for the mechanical and industrial design of all major programs, for example, batteries, Optimus, Robotaxi, and all new factories. Design Technology, which is part of Vehicle Engineering, is responsible for making the tools these engineers use every bit as intelligent and dynamic as the products themselves.

As a PLM Quality & Support Engineer on the Design Technology team, you will own the accuracy of the Engineering BOM in and outside our PLM systems. Teams across Tesla depend on that data every day, from the design engineers creating our next products to the factory line itself. When something looks wrong, you decide whether it's a system defect or user error, find the root cause, and make sure it doesn't happen again.

Joining our team means directly impacting Tesla's ability to communicate critical design data as the company scales to ship millions of products a year from factories around the world.

- Validate EBOM and file data against the design intent in our PLM systems of record. Catch errors before they reach suppliers and factory lines
- Run migration and release checks, and validate changes to customer-facing data before they ship
- Triage defects end to end. Tell system issues from user error, find the root cause, and hand engineering a defect report they can act on
- Be first-line support for engineers, buyers, and supplier-facing teams on access, missing files, and BOM mismatches
- Teach software engineers the PLM concepts behind the data: part revisions, primary and replica objects, maturity states, change actions, and configuration
- Automate the checks you run more than twice, with scripts and coding agents, so validation scales with release volume
- Write everything down so the work is visible: runbooks, known issues, and the reasoning behind each fix

- Hands-on experience with a PLM system (3DEXPERIENCE/Enovia, Teamcenter, Windchill, or equivalent) in an engineering or manufacturing setting
- Deep understanding of EBOM structure, part and drawing revisions, and engineering change processes
- A track record of root-causing data problems across multiple systems, not just reporting them
- SQL and at least one scripting language (Python preferred) to query data and automate checks
- Comfort reading API responses (REST or gRPC) and logs to see where data went wrong
- Clear written communication with both software engineers and non-technical users
- Daily use of AI tools or coding agents to speed up analysis and automation, preferred
- CATIA/3DX experience, preferred
- Experience with supplier or manufacturing data exchange, preferred
