About this role
The » Quantum Machine Learning « team at Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering IAO in Stuttgart conducts research on quantum computing-based data processing and develops machine learning methods in support of quantum technologies. The team is part of flaQship , the Fraunhofer Lab for applied quantum computing Stuttgart-Heilbronn, which unites the expertise of Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering IAO and the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation IPA. Within flaQship , the research area Quantum Service Engineering and High-Performance Computing focuses on making quantum computing usable as service-oriented applications, on integrating quantum resources into existing IT workflows, and on operating the laboratory and High-Performance computing infrastructure on which our research, trainings and demonstrators rely.
To operate and further develop our High-Performance computing infrastructure for quantum computing research, we are looking for a student assistant with a strong foundation in Linux systems administration.
Be part of change
- You operate and maintain our GPU-based High-Performance computing cluster and its file server, including the SLURM workload manager and the Open OnDemand web portal with Fraunhofer single sign-on
- You manage user accounts and onboard new users, document the relevant procedures and instruct users on how to work on the cluster securely and efficiently
- You implement security hardening measures, apply updates and patches on schedule and ensure compliance with the requirements of the institute's IT department
- You gather the computational requirements of our researchers, for example quantum circuit simulations and hybrid quantum-classical workloads, and configure scheduling, partitions and resources accordingly
- You automate recurring administrative tasks and contribute to monitoring, backup and documentation
- You contribute to research on the operation and optimization of HPC systems and on the integration of quantum computing resources into HPC environments
