About this role

Wärtsilä is an innovative technology company and a global leader in the energy market. For more than 190 years, we've been building what's next, helping our customers and society navigate the transition toward a decarbonized and sustainable future. Every day, Wärtsilians around the world put their hearts and minds into turning our purpose, enabling sustainable societies through innovation in technology and services, into reality.

As our business continues to grow, we're looking for forward-thinking talent who want to make an impact while building a long-term future. At Wärtsilä, you can build a career, not just a role, with opportunities to learn, grow, and contribute to work that matters. Join a company with a strong foundation, an exciting future, and a career path built to last. Want to join the ride?

We are looking for a Proposal Manager / Proposal Engineer to join our Africa & Europe Proposal Management team. In this role, you will contribute to the preparation and management of technical and commercial proposals for energy projects across our markets.

Depending on your experience, competence, and professional maturity, you may join us as a Proposal Engineer, Senior Proposal Engineer, or Proposal Manager. The scope and level of responsibility will be adjusted accordingly, offering an opportunity to develop from proposal engineering towards broader proposal and commercial leadership.

The preferred location for this position is Vaasa, Finland, or Paris, France. Other Wärtsilä locations in Finland may also be considered. We offer the possibility of hybrid work.

Your role and responsibilities

As a Proposal Manager or Proposal Engineer, you will work closely with Sales and a broad international network of technical, commercial, and operational experts. You will help translate customer requirements into competitive, commercially sound, and high-quality proposals. You’ll be part of a hard-working and highly skilled team that believes in working together, supporting each other, and having fun along the way.

Your work will focus on these responsibilities:

- Analyse customer requirements, tender documents, and project-specific needs

- Develop technical and commercial proposals together with Sales and other stakeholders

- Coordinate inputs from Engineering, Product Management, Project Management, Finance, Legal, Supply Management, and other relevant functions

- Establish proposal plans and ensure that agreed deliverables and deadlines are met

- Identify, evaluate, and communicate proposal-related risks and opportunities

- Ensure the quality, consistency, and completeness of proposal documentation

- Participate in customer meetings, clarifications, and commercial negotiations

To be able to succeed in the position, we expect you to have:

- A relevant technical, commercial, or engineering degree, or equivalent professional experience

- Experience in proposal engineering, proposal management, project management, sales support, engineering, or another relevant technical-commercial role

- A good understanding of technical and commercial matters and an interest in developing business-oriented solutions

- Strong coordination, communication, and stakeholder-management skills

- The ability to structure your work, manage priorities, and contribute effectively under demanding proposal schedules

- A collaborative and proactive way of working in an international and multicultural environment

- Fluency in written and spoken English

Considered an advantage:

- Professional working proficiency in French and/or German

- Experience in the energy, power generation, industrial, infrastructure, or EPC business

- Experience with complex tenders, contracts, commercial negotiations, or customer-facing work

- Experience coordinating cross-functional proposal or project teams

- Understanding of power plant solutions, energy technologies, or related applications

We value both technical expertise and proposal-management capability. You could therefore be a strong candidate whether your background is primarily in engineering and solution development or in coordinating complex commercial proposals.

Why you and us?

We at Wärtsilä believe in empowerment, ownership and taking responsibility for our work. We support each other’s growth, and co-creation is the true basis of our innovation. We have the courage to see opportunities and take initiative.

We are authentic and honest, and we strongly believe that by being your own true self, you can accomplish so much more. We don’t always get it right the first time, and if mistakes are made, we make sure to learn and grow from them. We want everyone to voice their opinions freely. That is why we have built an environment that empowers you and everyone around you, and where you can feel safe and cared for. Are you eager to be part of this ambition?

We have an amazing team, and we are excited about our work and the impact it has on building sustainable societies. We are looking to find a colleague with this shared passion for smart technologies and a sustainable future.
