About this role
At Thales, we know technology has the ability to make our world more secure, sustainable, and inclusive – and that it’s all driven by human intelligence.
Because it takes human intelligence to build and power the systems and solutions that people depend on every day. So we stay curious and make space for diverse points of view. We share what we know and we challenge what’s possible.
We’re driving progress in some of the world’s most important industries - from the bottom of the oceans to the depths of space and cyberspace - and from manufacturing to engineering, we work together to build a future we can all trust.
Imperva, a Thales company, is a globally recognized cybersecurity leader, dedicated to securing data and applications across diverse environments. Our cutting-edge solutions empower organizations to safeguard their most critical assets, ensuring robust protection against emerging threats.
We are looking for an experienced Software System Architect with strong hands-on technical expertise in C++, operating systems, and complex software systems.
In this role, you will play a key part in defining and evolving the product's architecture, leading the design of major features and technical initiatives, and addressing complex system-level and integration challenges across on-premises and cloud environments.
You will work closely with R&D, Product Management, DevOps, and other stakeholders to translate product and business requirements into robust, scalable, secure, and maintainable architectural solutions. The role requires a combination of deep technical investigation and system-level understanding, architectural thinking, and the ability to drive technical decisions across teams.
You will also leverage AI-powered engineering tools to improve technical investigation, solution design, debugging, and overall engineering effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Architecture & Design: Lead architectural planning and software design for new features, enhancements, and major technical initiatives, ensuring alignment with product requirements and long-term strategy.
- System-Level Technical Leadership: Maintain a deep understanding of the product architecture, major components, operating environments, and dependencies across the broader product ecosystem.
- System Integration: Analyze interactions between product components and external systems, addressing complex compatibility, interoperability, and integration challenges across on-premises and cloud environments.
- Technical Investigation & Problem Solving: Investigate complex software and system-level issues through debugging, root cause analysis, reverse engineering etc. Define effective solutions to challenging technical problems.
- Architectural Quality: Drive architectural consistency and engineering best practices, with a focus on performance, scalability, security, reliability, and maintainability. Identify opportunities to simplify existing designs and reduce technical debt.
- Technical Decision-Making: Evaluate architectural alternatives, communicate design decisions and trade-offs, assess technical risks, and document architecture and design specifications as needed.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with R&D, Product Management, DevOps, and other stakeholders to align on architectural direction and ensure successful execution of complex initiatives.
- Technology Evaluation & Innovation: Evaluate emerging technologies, frameworks, and engineering approaches to address current and future product needs and improve the product's technical capabilities.
- AI-Enabled Engineering: Effectively leverage AI-powered tools for technical analysis, debugging, architecture design, development, testing, and documentation. Identify opportunities to improve engineering efficiency through AI-assisted workflows.
Requirements:
- 10+ years of software development experience, including significant experience in software design and architecture.
- Strong hands-on experience in C++ development and the design of complex software systems.
- Proven experience leading software architecture and design for medium-to-large-scale software projects.
- Strong knowledge of operating systems, particularly Linux and Windows, including OS internals, system-level programming, and debugging.
- Experience with cloud environments and architectures, including deployment, integration, and troubleshooting; AWS experience is highly desirable.
- Proven ability to investigate and troubleshoot complex technical issues using advanced debugging techniques, root cause analysis, reverse engineering.
- Strong architectural thinking, with the ability to translate complex technical and performance constraints into simple, robust, and maintainable solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to understand complex systems in depth and design innovative technical solutions within a product or technology domain.
- Proficiency in AI-powered engineering tools and the ability to apply them effectively to technical investigation, design, and problem solving.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and technical leadership skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts and architectural trade-offs clearly.
- Ability to evaluate new technologies and frameworks and assess their applicability to product architecture.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Nice to have:
- Familiarity with agent-based architectures.
- Experience working with products that integrate on-premises software with cloud-based services.
- Experience driving architectural improvements across multiple product components or engineering teams.
