About this role
## About the role:
Are you passionate about building media strategies that connect brands with consumers and translate investment into measurable business impact? As Media Manager, you will lead the development, execution, and continuous optimization of media plans across the Benelux. You will turn global media direction into locally relevant strategies, ensure high-quality briefs and agency output, and create a clear learning agenda that improves effectiveness over time.
You will work closely with Marketing Managers to connect media choices to category and brand priorities, and partner intensively with the Social Manager to build integrated paid, owned, creator, and social plans. As the day-to-day strategic counterpart for the media agency, you will challenge recommendations, safeguard budgets and governance, and bring new ideas, channels, partners, and ways of working into the organization.
The ideal candidate combines strategic thinking with hands-on delivery. You are comfortable moving between annual planning, campaign briefing, budget tracking, performance reviews, and stakeholder alignment in a complex matrix organization.
## The impact you’ll make:
- Media Strategy & Planning: Own the local media strategy and annual/rolling media plans across brands and categories. Translate business, brand, audience, and campaign objectives into clear channel roles, investment choices, phasing, and measurable outcomes across the consumer decision journey.
- Global-to-Local Translation: Translate global media strategies, frameworks, partnerships, and campaign guidance into locally relevant plans. Identify where local consumer behavior, media dynamics, retailer ecosystems, or market priorities require adaptation, enrichment, or escalation.
- Integrated Planning with Social: Work closely with the Social Manager to develop one connected approach across paid media, organic social, creators, influencers, and local content. Ensure media and social plans reinforce each other through aligned audiences, messages, timing, formats, and measurement.
- Partnership with Marketing Managers: Act as a strategic media partner to Marketing Managers. Help shape campaign objectives, audience choices, launch plans, and investment priorities, while ensuring media plans remain connected to category strategy and commercial goals.
- Media Agency Leadership: Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for the media agency. Set clear expectations, lead planning and performance discussions, challenge assumptions and recommendations, and ensure timely, high-quality delivery from strategy through activation and reporting.
- Briefing Quality & Governance: Review and strengthen media briefs before they are submitted to the agency. Ensure briefs contain clear business objectives, audience definitions, communication tasks, success measures, budget parameters, timing, mandatories, and decision rights.
- Budget Ownership & Optimization: Maintain transparent control of media budgets, commitments, forecasts, and actual spend. Track allocation by brand, campaign, channel, and period; identify risks and opportunities early; and recommend reallocations based on performance, strategic priorities, and market developments.
- Performance & Effectiveness: Define campaign KPIs with Marketing Managers, the Social Manager, and agency partners. Lead recurring performance reviews, turn data into practical optimization actions, and connect media metrics to brand, consumer, traffic, conversion, and commercial outcomes where data is available.
- Learning Agenda & Continuous Improvement: Build a structured test-and-learn roadmap covering audiences, creative formats, channels, platforms, retail media, creators, and measurement. Capture learnings, share them across teams, and ensure they influence future briefs and plans.
- Innovation & New Media Strategies: Proactively identify emerging consumer behaviors, media opportunities, technology, partnerships, and planning approaches. Develop business-relevant pilots and new ideas rather than adopting trends without a clear consumer or commercial rationale.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with Marketing, Social, PR, Trade Shopper Marketing, E-commerce, Sales, Finance, Procurement, Data/Analytics, and global media teams to create aligned plans, resolve dependencies, and improve end-to-end execution.
- Standards, Compliance & Brand Safety: Help ensure media activity follows agreed brand-safety, privacy, procurement, and financial governance requirements, working with the appropriate internal experts and agency partners.
## The skills and knowledge you’ll bring:
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Marketing, Media, Communications, Business, Digital, or a related discipline.
- Professional Experience: Approximately 5–8 years of relevant experience in media, marketing, digital, or integrated communications, gained on the advertiser and/or agency side. Experience in consumer brands, retail, or a fast-moving international environment is an advantage.
- Media Expertise: Strong understanding of integrated media planning across video, digital, search, social, retail media, programmatic, audio, out-of-home, and other relevant channels. Able to define the role of each channel rather than manage channels in isolation.
- Budget & Commercial Acumen: Confident managing substantial budgets, forecasts, purchase commitments, and optimization decisions. Able to balance efficiency, effectiveness, brand-building, and short-term performance objectives.
- Analytical Capability: Comfortable interpreting agency reports, platform data, campaign KPIs, and research. Able to distinguish signal from noise and translate results into clear decisions and next actions.
- Briefing & Communication: Excellent at turning business challenges into focused briefs and communicating recommendations clearly to specialists and non-specialists. Confident challenging agencies and senior stakeholders constructively.
- Collaboration & Influence: A natural connector who builds trust with Marketing Managers, the Social Manager, agencies, global teams, and cross-functional partners. Able to influence without relying on hierarchical authority.
- Strategic & Execution Balance: Combines curiosity and strategic thinking with strong organization, attention to detail, and a bias for action. Comfortable managing multiple categories and campaigns in parallel.
- Ways of Working: Proactive, pragmatic, open to experimentation, and disciplined in follow-through. Brings new ideas while respecting brand strategy, available evidence, budgets, and operational realities.
- Languages: Fluent in English. Dutch is strongly preferred; French is an advantage for effective collaboration across the Benelux.
