About this role
Tesla's Self Perform team builds our factories, service centers, and energy sites with our own crews instead of handing the work to contractors. That means we hire electricians, pipefitters, welders, millwrights, HVAC techs, and the foremen and superintendents who lead them, at the pace construction actually moves. You'll own that hiring.
This is a full-cycle recruiting role with real ownership from day one. Hiring timelines are compressed, requisitions open with little warning, and the person you place on Friday may be on a job site Monday. The work is directly tied to how fast Tesla can build.
- Own requisitions end to end: intake, sourcing, screening, interview coordination, offer delivery, and close
- Partner with construction superintendents and hiring managers to understand trade-specific requirements, certifications, and crew timelines, then build a hiring plan that hits them
- Source candidates where tradespeople actually are: apprenticeship programs, trade schools, union halls, referral networks, job fairs, Indeed, and direct phone and text outreach; not just LinkedIn
- Screen for licensure, certifications, safety record, and hands-on capability, and translate what you learn into a clear recommendation for the hiring manager
- Keep hiring managers current with consistent, proactive updates on pipeline health and risk
- Track your own funnel metrics and use them to adjust sourcing strategy when a pipeline isn't converting
- Deliver a fast, respectful candidate experience, including to candidates you don't hire
- 2+ year of experience in recruiting, staffing, sales, or a high-volume coordination role, or a recent degree paired with demonstrated drive and ownership. Experience with an ATS and sourcing tools, preferred
- Exposure to construction, manufacturing, or skilled trades hiring
- Strong written and verbal communication, with the judgment to pick up the phone rather than send a fourth email
- Comfort managing a high-volume req load and reprioritizing as construction schedules shift
- Ability to learn and clearly explain compensation, including hourly rates, shift differentials, per diem, overtime, and relocation
- Genuine interest in the trades and willingness to walk a job site, wear PPE, and learn the work you're hiring for
- Ability to operate with ambiguity, incomplete information, and tight deadlines
