About this role

Dompé is an Italian bio-pharmaceutical company that focuses on innovation, where a long tradition in the field of personal wellness goes hand-in-hand with a commitment to research and development to meet unsatisfied therapeutic needs.

Established in 1940 in Milan, Dompé has an industrial and biotech research hub in L’Aquila, in addition to branches in Europe (Barcelona, Berlin, Paris and Tirana). The company has approximately 900 employees. The US headquarters of Dompé are based in Boston (R&D) and in the San Francisco Bay Area (Commercial Operations).

Job Summary:

The Associate Director, RWE Ophthalmology leads the design, execution, and dissemination of real-world evidence studies across Dompé's ophthalmology portfolio — spanning the marketed product and pipeline assets/diseases. Reporting to the Senior Director, RWE/HEOR, this individual partners closely with the Global Medical Indication Lead for Ophthalmology and Medical Communications to ensure ophthalmology-specific evidence needs are met with scientific rigor, strategic relevance, and a clear line of sight to how the evidence will be used in publications, HCP engagement, and, in partnership with HEOR colleagues, payor and formulary conversations. The role requires both epidemiological expertise and enough ophthalmology therapeutic depth to shape study design, data source selection, and analytic approach so that resulting evidence holds up to clinical, scientific, and regulatory scrutiny.

Essential Functions:

RWE Strategy & Evidence Planning
• Build and maintain an ophthalmology RWE evidence generation roadmap spanning across all programs
• Identify and prioritize evidence gaps in partnership with the Global Medical Indication Lead for Ophthalmology, translating unmet evidence needs, including, natural history, disease burden, treatment patterns, comparative effectiveness, into a defensible study pipeline
• Select and evaluate real-world data sources appropriate to each evidence question, including claims databases, EHR networks, specialty registries, and pharmaceutical hub program data

Study Design & Execution
• Design and manage observational studies, registries, and data analyses specific to ophthalmology, from protocol development through statistical analysis plan and final study report
• Oversee interpretation of RWE findings for ophthalmology assets, ensuring conclusions are appropriately caveated to data source limitations and confounding
• Lead data linkage and integration approaches across sources where appropriate, for example, linking claims data to hub program data for disease stage ascertainment
• Ensure studies meet scientific, ethical, and regulatory standards, including appropriate IRB/ethics oversight and data privacy compliance
• Manage project budgets, timelines, and vendor deliverables for assigned ophthalmology RWE studies

Stakeholder Partnership & Dissemination
• Partner with the Global Medical Indication Lead for Ophthalmology to align evidence generation with medical strategy and the broader indication engagement plan
• Manage relationships with academic investigators, data vendors (e.g., Komodo Health, registry holders), and research partners, including scope definition, deliverable tracking, and data use agreements
• Translate study results into publications, congress presentations, and internal insight summaries in partnership with Medical Communications, ensuring findings reach both external scientific and internal strategic audiences
• Partner with HEOR colleagues to ensure RWE outputs are positioned to support value communication and payor-facing evidence needs where relevant

Cross-Functional & Governance Contribution
• Contribute real-world context, disease epidemiology, treatment landscape, registry representativeness, to support Global Medical Lead and Medical Strategy planning, publication strategy, and advisory board content development
• Stay current on the ophthalmology RWE and registry landscape, flagging new data sources, methodology, or competitive RWE activity relevant to Dompé's portfolio

Qualifications:
Required
• Advanced degree (MD, PhD, PharmD, or equivalent) in epidemiology, outcomes research, or a related field
• 5+ years of experience in real-world evidence or outcomes research, including observational study design and execution
• Therapeutic experience in or strong familiarity with ophthalmology; rare disease experience a plus given Dompé's indication portfolio
• Experience with real-world data sources (claims, EHR, registries) and the methodological tradeoffs between them
• Strong written and verbal scientific communication skills, including experience authoring or co-authoring peer-reviewed publications

Preferred
• Existing relationships with ophthalmology KOLs or research networks
• Publication record in ophthalmology or related specialty areas
• Experience with claims, EHR, or registry-based ophthalmology data, including specialty registries such as the IRIS Registry
• Experience linking or integrating multiple real-world data sources (e.g., claims and hub/specialty pharmacy data) to answer a single evidence question
• Experience partnering with HEOR or Market Access functions on evidence value positioning

Competencies:
• Therapeutic depth: understands ophthalmology clinical practice well enough to design studies that address real evidence gaps, not just available data
• Analytical rigor: ensures statistical analysis plans are sound, data source limitations are understood, and interpretations are appropriately caveated
• Data source fluency: knows the strengths, gaps, and appropriate use cases of claims, EHR, and registry data, and when combining sources strengthens versus muddies an answer
• Partner management: builds productive, well-scoped relationships with academic and vendor partners, managing scope and deliverables without direct authority
• Scientific communication: converts study findings into publications, presentations, and internal summaries that are clear, decision-useful, and appropriately caveated
• Evidence strategy: sees individual studies as part of a sequenced evidence generation plan tied to indication lifecycle, not one-off requests
