A Brief Overview
This entry-level research technical role participates in a planned research projects by performing research protocols, experimental procedures and other laboratory tasks under direct supervision. May occasionally exercise minimal discretion and judgment in execution and interpretation of experiments, and of data derived.

The Sengupta Laboratory at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated researcher to join our team investigating how circadian rhythms regulate lung inflammation, injury, and repair.

Our laboratory studies how biological clocks influence immune responses to respiratory infections, tissue regeneration, and long-term pulmonary health. We combine molecular and cellular biology, immunology, genetics, and experimental models of lung injury to address fundamental questions with important implications for human disease.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to an active and collaborative research program at the intersection of circadian biology, immunology, and pulmonary medicine.

What you will do

- Performing molecular and cellular biology techniques, including flow cytometry, RNA isolation, qPCR, protein isolation, and Western blotting.
- Maintaining genetically modified mouse colonies, including breeding, genotyping, and associated regulatory documentation.
- Participating in animal experiments investigating respiratory infections, inflammation, and lung repair, with microscopy and image analyses.
- Learning and applying specialized techniques such as cell sorting, organoid assays, viral titration, and advanced immunophenotyping.
- Contributing to experimental design, data analysis, and scientific discussions.
- Train and supervise undergraduate students in the lab.
- Participate in joint lab meetings and seminar series with immunology, pulmonology, and circadian biology groups on campus.
- Performs routine tests / experiments under the direction of principal investigator, supervisor or other designee
- Performs research procedures on experimental samples as directed
- Records and checks experiments/ results for completeness and accuracy
- Performs calculations and maintains appropriate log and lab notebooks
- Performs tasks that require familiarity with fundamental techniques and lab equipment
- May assist with planning specific research protocols and procedures
- Maintains office, lab area, solutions, reagents, supplies and equipment, disposes of specimens, media and other materials (using appropriate procedures)
- Assists in care and maintenance of lab equipment
- May coordinate schedules of tests and procedures
- Attends courses, seminars, and lab meetings to expand knowledge of research and laboratory techniques
- Records results, organizes data and maintains lab notebook in an organized manner
- Compiles and helps analyze data, prepares charts, graphs, and results of studies as directed
- Conducts literary searches as directed

Opportunities for Scientific Growth

We believe that research staff are integral members of the scientific team. Depending on interests, experience, and demonstrated proficiency, individuals will have opportunities to take ownership of research projects, participate in experimental planning and interpretation, present findings at scientific meetings, and contribute to peer-reviewed publications.

The CHOP and University of Pennsylvania research environment also offers access to a vibrant scientific community, including seminars, workshops, and interactions with investigators across multiple disciplines.

For early-career applicants, we encourage a commitment of approximately two years to allow meaningful engagement with research projects and professional development.
