Looking for a PRN nursing opportunity that offers scheduling flexibility while allowing you to make a meaningful difference?
Southern Health Partners (SHP) is seeking a dependable, adaptable Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) to support our healthcare team at Surry County Jail in North Carolina.
This as-needed position is ideal for a nurse who enjoys variety and can step in to support coverage when needed. Shifts are 12 hours, and availability for both day and night shifts is required based on facility staffing needs.

🩺 What You'll Do
- Provide compassionate nursing care in a correctional healthcare environment.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
- Conduct nursing assessments, sick calls, and intake screenings.
- Monitor patient conditions and respond to routine and urgent medical needs.
- Recognize changes in patient health and communicate concerns to the appropriate provider.
- Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation.
- Collaborate with nursing, medical, and correctional staff.
- Follow established clinical protocols and help maintain a safe, professional healthcare environment.

PRN scheduling offers flexibility, with coverage needs varying by facility.
- Day and Night Availability: Be prepared to cover both shifts as needed.
- 12-Hour Shifts: Support essential patient care across the facility's coverage schedule.
- Flexible Scheduling: Coordinate availability through SHP's online scheduling exchange.
- Reliable Coverage: Honor accepted and scheduled shifts to help maintain consistent patient care.
- Monthly Availability: Provide at least four available dates each month.
- Holiday Availability: Provide holiday availability in advance whenever possible.
- Facility-Specific Needs: Requirements may vary based on staffing levels, facility size, and coverage needs. Facilities operating around the clock may require additional night availability.
Full-time and part-time schedules receive priority when coverage is assigned, so PRN shifts depend on facility needs and availability.
Qualifications
✅ What You'll Bring
- Current, active LPN or RN license valid for practice in North Carolina.
- Current CPR certification, as required.
- Willingness and ability to cover both day and night shifts.
- Strong clinical assessment, communication, and critical-thinking skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with a healthcare team.
- Dependability, adaptability, and a commitment to quality patient care.
- Correctional healthcare or emergency nursing experience is a plus, but not required.
