Job Title: Lifecycle Marketing Lead
Team: Marketing
Location: Onsite, Los Angeles, CA
Employment Type: Full-time, Salary, Exempt

About Plug
Plug is the marketplace for used electric vehicles. Consumers get an instant cash offer backed by battery-health data, and dealers across the US bid in real time on that inventory. Former Tesla executives founded Plug in 2023. We’ve facilitated $150M in EV sales and raised a $20M Series A led by Lightspeed Venture Partners.
Why Plug
- You’ll own a piece of the biggest automotive infrastructure opportunity.
- You’ll work on a platform built exclusively for EVs, with nothing adapted from legacy automotive.
- You’ll be part of an AI-native company. We’re rethinking how work gets done at a fundamental level.
- You’ll work directly with operators who have scaled multi-billion-dollar businesses in automotive, EV, and marketplaces.
- You’ll have real ownership, high autonomy, and a direct line to company outcomes.
The Role
Plug is hiring a Lifecycle Marketing Lead to shape how we communicate with customers at every stage of their relationship with Plug, from the moment they check their vehicle’s value through to close and beyond. Today, Sales, RevOps, BizOps, and Marketing split this work, with no single owner. This role is critical to the business’s growth.
This is a senior, hands-on role. You’ll set strategy, write copy, and run execution from day one, with real technical depth in marketing automation. This isn't a production role that receives prewritten briefs. You’ll take an open problem from idea to measured result. You’re welcome to bring in support when it serves the work, and you can build and lead a team as the function grows.
What You’ll Do
- Work with Product, BizOps, and Sales to understand the core issues across the funnel.
- Lead lifecycle strategy, copy, and execution for customer-facing email and SMS, replacing the current ad hoc process spread across multiple teams.
- Set up behavior-triggered flows to replace one-off sends decided manually.
- Work with RevOps on the technical build. How much you build directly versus specify is flexible. Setting up triggers is part of the role.
- Create the content plan and editorial calendar for customers, building trust and value over time.
- Turn content into nurture journeys and track how well they move customers through their lifecycle.
- Email and SMS are the first priority. Retargeting and on-site personalization (pop-ups, banners, personalized homepage content) are nice-to-have.
What Success Looks Like in the First Six Months
- Set a clear operating rhythm for lifecycle campaigns.
- Own a meaningful set of campaigns from strategy through results.
- Launch a stronger nurture or onboarding journey with a defined test-and-measure plan.
- Implement consistent briefs, segmentation rules, QA checks, and post-campaign reviews.
What You’ll Bring
- 6+ years in lifecycle or retention marketing, with experience setting strategy and running campaigns independently
- Hands-on experience with marketing automation platforms
- Strong copywriting skills, with comfort writing and refining messaging from start to finish
- Experience designing behavior-triggered, segmented campaigns
- Experience working across functions with Sales and RevOps
Not sure you should apply? We’d still like to hear from you. If you don’t meet every item in What You’ll Bring but you’re excited about this work, just apply.
Performance Metrics
- Funnel completion rate, measured by the reduction in drop-off between key moments in the customer journey
- Reactivation rate and time to conversion for nurtured leads who return within the three- to six-month window
- Email and SMS engagement health (open rate, click-through rate, list growth, and unsubscribe rate)
- Conversion influenced by lifecycle touchpoints
Compensation and Benefits
Annual salary: $145,000 to $180,000
This full-time position is in-person in Los Angeles. We will not provide relocation assistance to successful candidates. We do not offer sponsorship at this time.
