About this role
Exoscale is the leading Swiss/European cloud service provider, offering a full spectrum of cloud infrastructure services—from instantly deployable virtual machines to S3-compatible object storage. Our mission is to deliver a simple, scalable cloud experience that enables our customers to focus on what they do best.
We’re a distributed team headquartered in Lausanne, driven by a culture of openness, technical excellence, and collaboration. We value diversity and strive to provide an inclusive, flexible, and empowering work environment.
About the Role
Our network team builds and runs Exoscale's network: the edge, the datacenter fabrics, and the out-of-band network across all of our European zones.
We are hiring a full-time software engineer to join that team and own one thing: the orchestration that takes a network change from a merged pull request to running on production devices, automatically and safely.
Today our network is described as code. Device configuration is generated from our sources of truth and reviewed in pull requests. The step after that, rolling the change out to the network, still depends too much on an engineer at a terminal. We want that to become an orchestrated workflow, with the guarantees software teams take for granted from their deployment pipelines: validated before it ships, rolled out progressively, verified afterwards, and rolled back when something looks wrong.
This is a software engineering role inside a network team. You will not be expected to design the backbone, but you will work every day with the engineers who do, and what you build decides how fast and how safely they can change it.
Location: Spain, Germany or Remote in EU
What You’ll Be Working On:
- Design and build the orchestration of network changes. This goes beyond a deployment pipeline: it coordinates multi-step operations across devices and systems, with pre-change validation, staged rollout, post-change verification, and automatic rollback.
- Write the services and tooling behind it in Go and Python, with the tests, CI, and observability you would expect of any production software.
- Build a test environment (virtual labs, config and state checks) that lets us catch a bad change before it reaches a device.
- Extend our source-of-truth and config-generation tooling (NetBox, Peering Manager, Ansible/Jinja2) so that more of the network is described by data instead of by hand.
- Make the network’s state visible: detect drift between intended and running configuration, and expose it to the team.
- Take part in code and infrastructure change reviews, and raise the software engineering bar of the team.
- Join the on-call rotation after a training period.
About you:
You are a software engineer first, and you find infrastructure more interesting than CRUD apps. You may come from a network automation, SRE, or platform engineering background.
You have:
- Solid professional experience designing, writing, and maintaining production software in Go, and fluency in Python.
- Experience building CI/CD or deployment systems where a failed rollout has real consequences.
- A habit of testing what you ship and automating what you do twice.
- A working understanding of networking fundamentals (IP, routing, VLANs, what BGP is for). You don’t need to be a network engineer; you need to be curious enough to become dangerous.
- Strong written and spoken English, and comfort working in a distributed team.
It’s a plus if you have:
- Automated network devices before (Arista EOS, Junos, SONiC), through NETCONF, gNMI, eAPI, or similar.
- Used Ansible, NetBox, or comparable configuration-management and source-of-truth tools at scale.
- Worked with network test or validation tooling (containerlab, Batfish, pyATS, or similar).
- Experience with Linux networking and Kubernetes.
What we offer:
- A problem with real scope and ownership: you build the orchestration, not a ticket queue around it.
- Flexible hours and the ability to work remotely.
- A high degree of autonomy and creative freedom.
- A modern work environment with centrally located offices and excellent public transport access.
- Ongoing learning opportunities, training, and team events.
We’re excited to meet you—apply now and help us build the future of European cloud infrastructure.
