Lead with Confidence. Keep Our Y Safe. Make a Difference.

Are you a natural leader who stays calm under pressure, enjoys helping others, and knows how to take charge when it matters most? At the Crossroads YMCA, our Managers on Duty play an essential role in creating a safe, welcoming, and positive experience for everyone who walks through our doors.

As a Manager on Duty, you'll oversee daily branch operations, support staff across departments, respond to emergencies, and help ensure our facility runs smoothly. From solving unexpected challenges to building relationships with members, you'll be a trusted resource for both our team and our community.

What You Can Expect

As a Manager on Duty, you'll provide leadership and operational support throughout the branch, helping ensure a safe, welcoming, and well-managed environment.

- Monitor the entire facility, including outdoor areas and parking lots, to identify safety concerns, service needs, and operational issues.

- Serve as a first responder during emergencies, following YMCA safety protocols and emergency procedures.

- Respond promptly and professionally to incidents, member concerns, and unexpected situations while exercising sound judgment.

- Document significant incidents, actions taken, and recommended follow-up, keeping YMCA leadership informed.

- Provide guidance, direction, and support to staff across departments to ensure consistent service and safe operations.

- Assist with staff supervision, onboarding, training, and coaching to support a strong and effective team.

- Check in regularly with department teams to identify needs and provide operational assistance.

- Support programs and special events, including setup, takedown, and other operational needs.

- Build positive relationships with members and help create an inclusive, engaging YMCA community.

- Support aquatics operations and conduct swim tests when applicable.

- Perform light housekeeping and maintenance tasks, including submitting maintenance work orders when necessary.

- Ensure YMCA policies, safety standards, and professional conduct expectations are consistently followed.

- Complete required compliance and professional development training.

- Support additional branch and association responsibilities as assigned.

What Makes This Job Rewarding?

- Be the leader people count on. Provide guidance and reassurance to members and staff when challenges arise.

- Make a difference every day. Your leadership helps create a safe, welcoming environment where people of all ages can enjoy the YMCA.

- Build meaningful relationships. Connect with members, support staff, and help strengthen the sense of community throughout the branch.

- Make an impact across the entire Y. Work with multiple departments and play an important role in the overall member experience.

- Develop your leadership skills. Strengthen your decision-making, conflict resolution, emergency response, and team management abilities.

- Be part of something bigger. Support an organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

What Can Be Challenging?

Being a Manager on Duty is rewarding, but it also comes with significant responsibility, quick decision-making, and the need to remain flexible.

- Responding to unexpected situations. Emergencies, member concerns, and operational issues can arise without warning. You'll need to remain calm, assess the situation, and respond appropriately.

- Making decisions under pressure. As the Manager on Duty, staff and members may look to you for direction, even when situations are challenging or time-sensitive.

- Managing conflict. You'll occasionally need to address difficult conversations, enforce policies, and resolve disagreements while remaining fair and professional.

- Balancing multiple department needs. You may be called upon to assist different areas of the facility while maintaining awareness of overall branch operations.

- Staying active and alert. This is not a traditional desk management position. You'll spend much of your shift walking the facility, checking on operations, and proactively addressing concerns.

- Working a flexible schedule. Evening, weekend, and holiday availability is necessary to meet the needs of the branch.

To be considered for this position, you must meet the following requirements:
