Job Summary

Sims Metal seeks a dependable, hardworking Laborer to join our scrap metal recycling facility in Mays Landing, NJ. This is a full-time, first-shift position involving general labor, sorting and processing scrap metal, maintaining a clean and safe work environment, and supporting daily yard operations.

The ideal candidate is safety-conscious, reliable, mechanically inclined, and comfortable performing physically demanding work outdoors in an industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Sort, separate, and process various types of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal.

- Perform general labor duties, including lifting, moving, and organizing scrap materials.

- Assist with loading and unloading trucks and recyclable materials.

- Remove unwanted materials and debris from scrap piles and processing areas.

- Maintain yard cleanliness through sweeping, shoveling, and general housekeeping.

- Assist equipment operators and other team members with daily operations.

- Safely use basic hand tools and equipment.

- Work around heavy machinery, forklifts, trucks, and other industrial equipment.

- Follow all company safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

- Identify and report unsafe conditions or equipment issues.

- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

- Previous experience in general labor, construction, landscaping, manufacturing, warehouse operations, or scrap metal recycling preferred but not required.

- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks throughout the shift.

- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.

- Basic mechanical aptitude is a plus.

- Ability to follow instructions and work safely around heavy equipment.

- Dependable, punctual, and willing to work as part of a team.

- Willingness to learn and take on additional responsibilities.

Work Environment

- Outdoor industrial scrap metal recycling facility.

- Exposure to noise, dust, dirt, changing weather conditions, and moving equipment.

- Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and repetitive physical activity.

- Required use of appropriate personal protective equipment.
