About this role
The Foundation
We are the largest nonprofit fighting poverty, disease, and inequity around the world. Founded on a simple premise: people everywhere, regardless of identity or circumstances, should have the chance to live healthy, productive lives. We believe our employees should reflect the rich diversity of the global populations we aim to serve. We provide an exceptional benefits package to employees and their families which include comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage with no premiums, generous paid time off, paid family leave, foundation-paid retirement contribution, regional holidays, and opportunities to engage in several employee communities. As a workplace, we’re committed to creating an environment for you to thrive both personally and professionally.
The Team
The Gender Equality (GE) Division's mission is to ensure women and girls in Africa and South Asia can enjoy good health, make their own choices, earn their own money, and be leaders in their societies. When women and girls have an equal chance to thrive and lead, everyone benefits. This role partners with two specific teams within the GE Division:
1. The Data and Technology Adoption team (DATA) strengthens decision-making to improve the health and well-being of women and girls. Operating as both an investment maker and a functional service provider, the team works across three strategic pillars: providing deep functional expertise to program strategy teams (PSTs) and regional country offices (RCOs) to accelerate impact; developing public goods and platforms with high impact potential and multi-PST relevance; and exploring and incubating new paths to improve women's and girls' health and economic outcomes. We also partner with other functional teams across the division to bring the power of DATA's capabilities alongside other gender equality priorities.
2. The Adolescent Learning Agenda & Women Leaders (ALAWL) team invests in an enabling environment for women and girls to live healthy and prosperous lives. We do this by generating evidence to inform decision makers, empowering trusted leaders, and shifting social norms that shape their world from adolescence into adulthood. We fund trusted, cost-effective platforms, including entertainment media, and networks of leaders that other PSTs can leverage to advance the Foundation's goals. We co-create culturally relevant solutions by building partnerships with trusted faith and cultural champions and leadership coalitions. We prioritize reaching women and girls at two critical inflection points: adolescence and in the workplace.
Your Role
As the Deputy Director, Strategy, Planning, and Management (DDSPM) you will lead the team’s strategic, financial, and operational functions, acting as a key advisor to the Directors and Leadership Teams while connecting strategy to day-to-day business operations. You lead specific business processes, such as oversight of strategy, annual planning and budgeting, ongoing pipeline and portfolio management, business analysis, and the coordination of business strategies across the foundation. This role leads the team’s annual strategic planning and reporting cycles, including preparation of materials for the Executive Leadership Team. You’ll also coordinate with peers across the Gender Equality division and other teams, contribute to foundation-wide strategy efforts, and engage in a community of practice with the Foundation Strategy Office.
For this specific DDSPM opportunity you will be working across two distinct, yet complementary teams within the Gender Equality Division – Data & Technology Adoption (DATA) and Adolescent Learning & Women Leaders (ALAWL). Both teams operate as both investment makers and functional service and technical expertise providers. This is an exciting opportunity to focus on the key enablers that power gender equality and to work in partnership with the Directors and leadership teams guiding each team and elevating shared team priorities for impact. This is a newly scoped role in this way and has the potential to build something new and innovative across these two teams.
We are looking for an individual who enjoys the opportunity to work on complex problems and collaboratively create solutions that have the potential for transformational change in the lives of people around the world. The DDSPM will bring senior strategy, business operations, and global development expertise to guide portfolio-, initiative-, and investment-level decision making.
