About this role

Description

Amazon's Sub-Same Day (SSD) network is redefining how customers receive their orders — and we are building the leadership team to match that ambition. We are seeking a General Manager (GM) to own the operational and strategic performance of a portfolio of 5–6 SSD fulfillment buildings while also overseeing the piloting of a new generation building powered by Amazon's proprietary orbital technology. This is not a maintenance role — it is a mandate to set a new standard for speed, safety, and operational excellence across the most technologically advanced fulfillment infrastructure Amazon has ever built.

The GM will serve as the single-threaded owner of 5 SSD/GFC sites and a new technology deployment to scale across their building portfolio, driving change, establishing repeatable best practices, and developing the leaders who will carry this program forward. This role sits at the frontier of Amazon's fulfillment evolution, and the right candidate will thrive in an environment where the playbook is still being written.

Key job responsibilities
· Own and deliver the combined operational budget across a portfolio of 5–6 SSD/GFC buildings, with full accountability for safety, customer experience, productivity, and cost.
· Drive the deployment, optimization, and continuous improvement of orbital technology systems, establishing the operational standard Amazon will scale globally.
· Set ambitious goals for each facility and hold the leadership teams within them accountable to those targets — measuring progress weekly and acting on deviations without delay.
· Build, develop, and retain 5–6 high-performing building leadership teams capable of operating at the pace and precision SSD demands; develop successors at every level of the organization.
· Partner with Amazon's robotics, technology, and engineering organizations to translate orbital system capabilities into operational gains — serving as the field voice that informs future technology investment.
· Establish and codify new standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the SSD orbital model; ensure consistent adoption across the portfolio and contribute to the broader SSD playbook.
· Lead change at scale — identify operational gaps, mobilize resources, and implement solutions across multiple buildings simultaneously without sacrificing quality or safety.
· Build strong partnerships with upstream and downstream network partners, including sort centers, delivery stations, air hubs, and corporate support functions including Human Resources (HR), Finance, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), Reliability Maintenance and Engineering (RME), and Information Technology (IT).
· Ensure each building adheres to Amazon's policies, safety standards, and leadership principles, and serves as an exemplar for the broader fulfillment network.

Basic Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree from an accredited university, or 2+ years of Amazon experience
· 7+ years of direct management experience leading large-scale operations comprising 200+ salaried and hourly employees in a manufacturing, production, distribution, or logistics environment
· Demonstrated track record of leading through performance metrics, Lean/Six Sigma methodologies, and process improvement, with the ability to influence peers and drive change without direct authority
· Proven experience leading the deployment or scale of highly automated systems, robotics, high-speed conveyor systems, or equivalent advanced technology in an operational environment
· Multi-site or area management experience, with demonstrated ability to drive consistent results across geographically distributed teams
· Ability to work flexible hours as business demands require, including nights, weekends, and holidays

Preferred Qualifications

· Degree in Engineering, Operations, or a related technical field
· MBA or Master's degree in a technical discipline
· 10+ years of operations leadership experience in a manufacturing, production, distribution, or logistics environment
· Experience leading the adoption of new technology platforms in a live operational environment, including change management, training design, and performance ramp
· Demonstrated experience managing a contingent workforce during peak demand periods
· History of building leadership pipelines — developing L4–L6 operational leaders into roles of greater scope and responsibility
· Experience operating within a rapidly scaling, ambiguous program where standard processes do not yet exist
· Strong analytical approach to problem-solving with a metrics-driven focus on cost efficiency without sacrificing safety or customer experience

Leadership Profile
The GM, SSD/GFC leads at the edge of what Amazon has built before. Beyond operational credentials, the ideal candidate:
· Exercises sound judgment under ambiguity and acts decisively with incomplete information
· Holds relentlessly high standards and raises the bar in every building, every week
· Thinks at the program level while staying close enough to the floor to spot what the data does not show
· Inspires teams to solve problems that do not yet have answers
· Challenges assumptions, drives innovation from the bottom up, and builds the conviction of those around them
· Is motivated by scale — the opportunity to define a new fulfillment model that will serve millions of customers and influence how Amazon builds for the next decade
