About this role

Senior Accountant (Contract/Contract to Hire)

About the Company
Our client is a fast-growing, multi-brand e-commerce company, operating a family of direct-to-consumer brands alongside a services business. The company is investing heavily in technology, including AI, and is at an exciting inflection point in its growth. This is a great opportunity to join a high-growth organization and help build a scalable accounting function.

Culture
The team values energy and grit, a bias toward action, ownership and accountability, and a collaborative, low-ego approach. They work hard, move fast, and keep perspective.

About the Role
We're looking for a hands-on Senior Accountant to own the month-end close across a family of companies and keep the books clean as the business grows. You'll run the close for multiple entities, keep everything GAAP-compliant, and be the go-to for reconciliations, tax remittance, and audit support. Great looks like a close that's on time, accurate, and a little faster every month.

What You'll Own

- Run the month-end close for multiple entities, including preparing and recording journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
- Maintain and balance general ledger and subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies.
- Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules, including budget-to-actual reports and variance analysis.
- Apply revenue recognition under ASC 606 and support gross profit analysis.
- Ensure timely remittance of sales and use, federal and state, and franchise taxes.
- Keep all accounting work compliant with GAAP, company policies, and other regulatory requirements.
- Manage the company expense system and make sure reimbursements go out on time.
- Support the planning, coordination, and execution of the annual audit.
- Partner with finance leadership on reporting needs, special projects, and ad hoc requests.

What You'll Drive

- Investigate and resolve accounting issues, and recommend controls that keep them from coming back.
- Spot inefficiencies in current practices, recommend process improvements, and help implement them.
- Help build tools and processes that make the monthly financial statement review faster and more accurate.
- Provide quantitative analysis that helps leadership make strategic decisions.

What We're Looking For

- 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, including month-end close, GAAP financial reporting, and sales tax compliance; public accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, plus strong Excel and NetSuite skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong critical thinking, with the ability to communicate clearly with leadership and cross-functional partners.
- A proactive approach to ambiguous problems: figuring out what's broken and acting on it rather than waiting to be told what's next.
- Speed, real ownership of outcomes, and a high personal bar.
- Strong collaboration across teams with a low-ego, no-drama approach.
- Bonus: experience in startup or high-growth environments, or an active CPA.
- Curiosity about AI-assisted tools and eagerness to adopt them (openness matters more than existing expertise).

The Details

- Employment type: Contract, opportunity to convert to permanent if it's a good fit!
- Location: On-site, Denver, CO
- Compensation: $60-70/hour, based on experience (1099)
