Associate Manager, Hazardous Waste

Tesla is seeking an operations Associate Manager to join the Gigafactory Nevada Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Team. This role will support the hazardous waste operations and compliance programs within Tesla’s Gigafactory in Sparks, NV.
Reporting to the Hazardous Waste Operations leader, the Hazardous Waste Operations Associate Manager will be responsible for the performance of Leads & Technicians tasked with the collection and handling of hazardous waste from Tesla’s Sparks campus. This individual will also be responsible for ensuring daily hazardous waste operations comply with Tesla Standard Operating Procedures and Federal, State, and Local Hazardous Waste Regulations. The Hazardous Waste Operations Associate Manager will also be empowered to identify continuous improvement opportunities to reduce risk and waste handling and disposal costs. Be part of the Tesla EHS Team that builds capacity, provides solutions, and drives continuous improvement throughout the Global Tesla Organization.

- Supervise hazardous waste operations team, lead weekly team meetings, and provide training and coaching to team members including written feedback and performance reviews
- Train hazardous waste technicians on proper OSHA safety guidelines, State and Federal Regulations pertaining to Hazardous Waste Disposal, and Department of Transportation regulations for proper loading, marking, handling, and transporting of hazardous material materials
- Track hazardous and non-hazardous waste generation, storage and disposal for Tesla as required by local, state, and federal law
- Create and maintain all records associated with hazardous waste generation including manifests, LDRs (Land Disposal Restriction notifications), monthly accumulation logs, and inspection reports
- Ensure weekly and monthly environmental compliance inspections are conducted on all central and satellite accumulation areas
- Prepare purchase requests, schedule outgoing waste shipments, and review vendor invoices
- Create profiles of waste streams with vendors to find the most efficient and cost-effective option for all generated waste

- 5 years of experience managing hazardous waste operations and staff in high tech manufacturing, research and development, or similar environment
- 5 years of experience with waste management, hazardous materials, or related fields
- 5 years of experience in chemical spill response
- Proficiency with EPA, DOT, and applicable state and local regulations
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure
- Ability to solve problems and work effectively and efficiently under pressure. Ability to interface with customers and manage team dynamics
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote
