Role: Technology Business Partner (TBP)
ROLE PURPOSE
The Technology Business Partner (TBP) is the strategic technology advisor for an assigned business domain(s). The TBP combines business knowledge, technical acumen, and delivery leadership to connect strategy with executable change. The role looks across business capabilities, processes, and platforms to identify high-value opportunities, shape a coherent portfolio of software and data, and ensure project outcomes drive business value.
Barings currently has an opening for a TBP to cover various functions within Operations, such as portfolio services, trade operations, valuation, performance measurement, fund accounting, portfolio compliance, etc. This role reports to the head of the Technology Business Partner team.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
· Business and technology alignment: develop a comprehensive understanding of business capabilities and processes in relation to the platforms, systems, and data that support them, and then leverage that knowledge to help align technical initiatives and roadmaps with business strategy and priorities.
· Strategic oversight of tech/data portfolio: maintain an integrated view of demand, active initiatives, strategic fit, business value, cost, capacity, risks, and sequencing so leaders can make transparent investment and trade-off decisions.
· Business case evaluation: define the business problem before defining the solution; determine whether the need is best addressed through technology, data, process, controls, operating-model change, or a combination of interventions.
· Critical thinking: challenge assumptions, evaluate alternatives, develop clear value propositions, and recommend where Barings should invest, reuse, simplify, standardize, or stop.
· Cross-functional execution: coordinate between business sponsors, technical delivery teams, operations, risk, vendor management, and other partners to define ownership, make timely decisions, identify key dependencies, and drive successful initiatives.
· Outcome realization: establish success measures, prepare business for change, encourage adoption, and ensure delivered capabilities produce the expected outcomes.
· Executive transparency: provide concise, decision-oriented communication on portfolio health, strategic choices, unresolved risks, and actions required from leadership.
· Continuous improvement: identify opportunities to simplify the technology estate, strengthen controls and data quality, improve delivery practices, and scale reusable capabilities across business areas.
WHAT YOU BRING
· Experience connecting business strategy to technology, data, product, transformation, or operating-model outcomes in investment management, financial services, or another complex, regulated environment.
· Ability to earn credibility with senior business and technology leaders while constructively challenging requests, priorities, and proposed solutions.
· Strong problem-framing, commercial judgment, and systems thinking, with the ability to balance value, risk, cost, architecture, controls, and delivery capacity.
· Experience shaping roadmaps, portfolios, business cases, prioritization decisions, and measurable outcomes across multiple teams and initiatives.
· Clear executive communication and the ability to create accountability and momentum without relying on direct authority.
· Knowledge of investment management and the front-to-back investment lifecycle is preferred; curiosity and the ability to develop deep domain expertise are essential.
SUCCESS IN THE ROLE
Success is demonstrated when business and GTD leaders have a shared view of priorities, technology initiatives are grounded in value and consistent with enterprise objectives, associated delivery teams are solving clearly defined problems, and technology-enabled change produces measurable business outcomes.
