The Effects Supervisor works inside of NAS to lead the FX team on a specific film or series, overseeing the creation of water, fire, smoke, atmospherics, destruction, debris, magical FX, and more. This role ensures that FX work enhances the storytelling, supports the vision of the VFX Supervisor and Head of Effects, and is technically robust for Lighting, Compositing, and final delivery.

- Collaborate with the VFX Supervisor, Head of Effects, Production Designer, and Art Directors to interpret FX briefs and define the visual and technical standards for FX across the show.
- Supervise FX work on shots and sequences, ensuring that FX support story, mood, and cinematic style while maintaining clarity and visual balance.
- Create or refine selected FX shots or elements as needed—particularly complex, hero, or reference‑setting work—to help establish the quality bar, style, and technical approach for the team.
- Work closely with Environments, Characters, CFX, Lighting, and Compositing to ensure FX integrates seamlessly into the final image and supports performance and readability.
- Help define and refine FX tools, workflows, and presets in partnership with Technical Supervisors, FX TDs, and pipeline teams.
- Provide input to Production Management and department leadership on FX complexity and progress to support realistic planning and prioritization.
- Troubleshoot technical and artistic challenges in FX, collaborating on solutions that maintain quality while meeting schedule needs.
- Help foster a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative team culture where artists can do their best work.

What You’ll Need :

- Significant experience in FX for feature animation, VFX, or high‑end series, including time in a Lead or Supervisory role.
- A strong reel demonstrating high‑quality FX work (fluids, pyro, destruction, atmospherics, magical FX) and its integration into final shots.
- Proficiency with FX tools such as Houdini (SOPs/DOPs/POPs), with additional experience in other DCCs (e.g., Maya) a plus.
- Strong understanding of how FX interacts with Environments, CFX, Animation, Lighting, and Compositing within a production pipeline.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to give clear, constructive feedback and collaborate effectively across departments.
- Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills.

This role is based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Hybrid Role (Minimum of 3 days a week in the office).
