About this role
JAM is your one-stop shop for all things PLAY! Whether you're looking to join recreational sports leagues across North America or plan a hilarious corporate team-building event, JAM does it all! We’re looking for a new teammate to help us deliver unforgettable experiences as we connect more people through play than ever before.
Our Core Values:
- Chase the Vision
- Deliver What You Promise
- Take Pride in What You Do
- Get Shit Done
- Treat Everyone Like Your Best Friend
- Find a Better Way
MISSION: Run Winnipeg like it’s your own business. Own the player experience, keep players coming back, and grow JAM’s footprint by finding new venues, players, programs and partners.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own the player experience. Be at games 2 to 4 nights a week, depending on the time of season and how leagues are running. Rotate so you see every venue and League Ambassador regularly, and make sure venues, equipment and permits are ready before every game.
- Keep players coming back. Lead customer service locally: own the player email inbox, reply within one business day, and resolve most issues yourself. Act on NPS, Google Reviews and player feedback, and drive re-registration every season.
- Build and coach your local team. With support from People & Culture, hire and train League Ambassadors. Stay in regular contact with your team and coach each Ambassador up to JAM’s standards.
- Grow the Winnipeg footprint. Scout new venues, drive local player acquisition with Marketing, and open doors with local businesses that could become sponsors or partners.
- Think like an entrepreneur. Spot opportunities others miss: an underused venue, a sport or format Winnipeg doesn’t offer yet, a partnership that brings in new players. Build the business case for your manager (what it costs, what it could earn, how it could be tested), and once it’s approved, promote it, launch it and make it work.
- Build the community. Get players out to sponsor bars, and run captains’ nights, theme nights and champions’ nights that make JAM the social centre of Winnipeg’s rec sports scene.
- Own the numbers. You’re accountable for hitting or beating Winnipeg’s seasonal sales, retention, NPS, League Ambassador rating and Google Review targets. Work with head office shared services (Finance, Venues, Marketing, Scheduling, People & Culture, CX and Partnerships) to get it done..
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience: 3+ years in sport operations, events, hospitality or recreation, including running something end to end: a program, a location or a business line.
- Staff leadership: 2+ years hiring, coaching and managing part-time or frontline staff.
- Entrepreneurial mindset: You think like an owner. You notice what’s working, what isn’t and what’s missing, and you weigh ideas by cost, opportunity and payback. You’ve grown something before (a league, a club, a program, a side business) and know how to turn a good idea into a solid proposal.
- Sales and partnerships: You’re comfortable cold-calling a venue, promoting leagues to strangers, or pitching a local business on a partnership.
- Results-driven: You’ve worked to targets (revenue, retention or customer satisfaction) and can show how you moved them.
- Customer service: You handle complaints and tough conversations and resolve them within JAM’s guidelines, with minimal escalation.
- Numbers: Comfortable using data (fill rates, NPS, ratings, revenue) to decide where to act.
- Been a player: You’ve played in or captained an adult rec league. A network in the Winnipeg sports community is a strong asset.
- Requirements: Based in Winnipeg, with a valid driver’s licence and access to your own vehicle.
HOURS AND COMPENSATION
- Full-time, salaried position with benefits.
- Your schedule - built around business needs.
- This is a full-time role, and you’ll be expected to be available, responsive and working a full week.
- Because you’ll be visiting games 2 to 4 evenings a week, plus some weekends, you’ll have flexibility in how you structure your days. Daytime goes to growth, venues, hiring and admin; evenings go to games and getting to know your players.
- Expect the busiest stretches around season launches and playoffs, with lighter periods between seasons.
- You share in what you grow.
- $50,000 to $55,000 base (based on experience)
- Full benefits after 3 months, plus the company RRSP matching program.
- Complimentary league play.
- 10 vacation days and 10 personal days to start.
- GO PLAY Days in the summer, our version of summer hours: bank your Friday afternoon hours elsewhere in the week, book it with your team lead, and go play.
- Plus a performance bonus tied to Winnipeg’s results (10-15% of base salary).
- Candidates newer to managing staff or a business line should expect to start toward the lower end of the range.
- Measured on:
Direct margin, retention, NPS, League Ambassador ratings, and Google Reviews.
Application deadline is Friday, November 13th at 10:00 AM EST.
