About this role
Apple engineers have always focused on one person when they build software — the person who will use it. Working in our Software Group (SWE) you’ll see why every Apple product and service feels intuitive and simple, and why every aspect of this group’s work is built around a respect for the customer’s needs.
Apple's Security Engineering & Architecture team (SEAR) focuses on security needs. Passionate about safeguarding, we believe the best defense is a good offense. When it comes to securing more than a billion devices running the world's most sophisticated operating systems, that means finding vulnerabilities first.
We are now making our security evaluation pipeline fully AI-native, from vulnerability discovery to validation, using the most advanced AI capabilities available. Can you make a difference on this scale? Join our extraordinary team of security researchers, engineers and AI specialists, and help discover and patch Apple products' vulnerabilities before they ship.
We are looking for a manager to lead several teams that develop the capabilities and tooling supporting both offensive and defensive security projects. You will bring a product-oriented mindset to complex systems, shaping our end-to-end security evaluation pipeline and driving its evolution toward an AI-native approach.
Your organization will include software and security engineers and AI engineers who bring advanced AI capabilities into every stage of the work. Your teams will partner very closely with Apple's security researchers, who are your primary customers and collaborators. You will make sure they have the tools that make the difference: you will understand their workflows, anticipate their needs, and turn their feedback and ideas into reliable products that multiply their impact. You will set technical direction, grow and mentor your teams, and ensure that what they build is adopted and used across Apple.
Working alongside a wide variety of teams and vendors, your influence will be felt throughout Apple's products, such as iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV. The tools your teams build will support security assessments in the areas of platform security, hardware/software boundary, wireless technologies, and more.
The typical activities of your teams include creating innovative offensive and defensive security tools, building and scaling fuzzing infrastructure and techniques, and developing AI-driven vulnerability discovery and analysis systems. They also include operating research tooling as production services, and consulting with researchers and other teams on both hardware and software, so that proofs of concept, design and specification reviews, and assessments benefit from the best possible tooling. The scope is as diverse as it is essential.
This position requires someone with strong technical skills, the ability to lead and grow multidisciplinary engineering teams, and a customer-focused mindset toward researchers. You should also have a passionate desire to secure systems by enabling the people who show how they can be broken.
If this is you, we'd love to hear from you!
