The Senior Estimating Engineer is a key contributor to the estimating function at Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg, responsible for developing accurate, comprehensive cost estimates for small- to large scale greenfield and brownfield projects. This role demands a highly analytical and detail-oriented professional with expert knowledge of construction cost estimating principles. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, procurement, construction teams, and contractors in a fast-paced, dynamic environment to ensure estimates fully support project execution and overall business objectives.
- Prepare detailed material take-offs from 2D drawings and 3D models to validate design quantities and contractor submissions
- Build cost estimates from high-level ROM through definitive, bottoms-up analyses, convert them into unit rates, and benchmark against industry standards, internal history, and market trends in material, labor, and equipment
- Lead estimate reviews with engineering, procurement, scheduling, and construction so scope, execution plan, and accuracy stay aligned, including quantified risk allowances and value-engineering opportunities
- Challenge spend requests and change orders against approved budgets, scrutinize supplier costs, assess schedule impact, and feed approved changes into project controls
- Maintain estimating systems, templates, metrics, and cost benchmarks; track estimate performance with project controls and finance; and support weekly/monthly reporting plus ad-hoc ROI and payback studies
- Create bid packages, support contractor and supplier evaluations, join commercial negotiations, and produce cost-loaded schedules and cash-flow forecasts with the scheduling team
- Conduct site visits for field data, mentor junior estimators on methodology and best practice, and keep all estimating work compliant with internal standards, safety requirements, and industry regulations
- Substantial construction cost estimating and pre-construction experience, ideally in industrial, manufacturing, or high-tech environments
- Strong working knowledge of means and methods across civil, structural, architectural, and MEP trades, including how scheduling interfaces with cost
- Advanced Excel and Navisworks skills, with familiarity in CostX, Primavera P6, Bluebeam, CAD, and related construction-management tools
- Working knowledge of standard estimating sources such as RSMeans and Equipment Watch
- Ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities, and meet aggressive deadlines with reliable follow-through
- Analytical, organized, and proactive communicator who engages clearly at all levels, internally and with contractors, in a fast-paced, multicultural setting
- Collaborative, detail-oriented problem-solver with a strong work ethic in cross-functional teams
