About this role

Here’s a question I ask a lot of physios. When did you last see a client all the way through, from the first assessment to the day they walked out without needing you?

In a lot of city clinics, the honest answer is “not often.” Short appointments, back to back bookings and clients who drop off halfway. Mackay is different. The caseload here is broad, the clients stick around, and you get to see your work pay off.

I’m Stuart, Head of Talent at Proactive Health. This is one of the regional physio roles I’m most excited about.

Where You’ll Work

You’ll join Proactive Health in Mackay, led by Hayley Ferguson. Hayley runs her teams in a linear fashion, this means that you are all part of a team that has a voice and influence over direction. The team includes EPs and physios, with visiting podiatry, OT, dietetics, which means you’ve got someone to hand a client over to for long term conditioning once your acute work is done. You’re also not carrying every complex case on your own.

The clinic is part of Proactive Health, a national network of more than 40 allied health businesses across 350+ locations. On a normal day you won’t notice the network much. You’ll notice it when you want CPD, a second opinion or a step up in your career.

A Thursday in Mackay

Your first client is a diesel fitter with a shoulder injury, six weeks out from surgery and keen to get back on the tools. Then comes a veteran under DVA whose knee has been holding him back from his morning walks along the Bluewater Trail. Mid morning is a new private client, a local footballer with a recurring hamstring. After lunch you’ve got a Home Care Package client working on falls prevention. You finish the day talking with the EP about who’s ready to move into the gym.

Your caseload covers workers’ compensation, DVA, Medicare EPC, NDIS, Home Care Packages, CTP and private health. Day to day, that looks like:

- Assessing and treating a broad musculoskeletal, post surgical and sports injury caseload
- Building treatment plans with clear goals your clients can see themselves moving towards
- Managing injured workers through recovery, working closely with employers, case managers and insurers
- Handing over to the EP team at the right time so clients keep progressing after acute care
- Building relationships with local GPs, surgeons and referrers so your books stay full
- Keeping your clinical documentation in line with AHPRA standards and Proactive Health’s governance framework

Outside work, your weekends might be a swim under the waterfalls at Finch Hatton Gorge, a boat trip out to the islands, or a long lunch by the marina. The airport has direct flights to Brisbane when you need a city fix, and your rent won’t eat half your pay.

Requirements

- A recognised degree in Physiotherapy

- Current general registration with AHPRA
- Current professional indemnity insurance, or willingness to obtain it
- A current driver’s licence and reliable vehicle for home and community visits
- A National Police Check and NDIS Worker Screening Check, current or willing to obtain
- A Queensland Blue Card, current or willing to obtain
- Sound clinical reasoning across musculoskeletal and post surgical presentations
- Clear communication with clients, referrers and employers

It would help to have workers’ compensation experience, sports or post surgical rehab interest, or DVA experience. If you have none of those yet, you’ll pick them up quickly here.

Early career physios are welcome too. You’ll have a senior physio to lean on and our graduate program to build your confidence.

Benefits

→ $90k to $105k + super, with the number on the table from your first conversation

→ Time to treat properly, with appointment lengths that let you do real clinical work

→ The chance to see clients through to discharge, not just the first few sessions

→ An EP team to hand over to, so long term outcomes don’t all fall on you

→ CPD through the Proactive Health Academy to keep your AHPRA hours ticking over

→ A senior physio to bounce cases off, whatever stage of your career you’re at

→ Room to grow into a senior, team lead, clinic manager or owner role if that’s where you want to go

→ Retail discounts, wellbeing centre access, and a team that actually looks out for each other

Thinking about it? Pick up the phone. I’m happy to talk through the role, the clinic and what moving to Mackay really looks like, with no pressure.
