Area Manager - Newcastle

Downer is seeking an experienced Area Manager to lead our surfacing operations across the Newcastle region . Reporting to the State Manager NSW/ACT, you will be responsible for safety, operational performance, financial results, client relationships and the leadership of a high-performing team. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of a well-established business and drive its continued growth and success.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Lead the Newcastle surfacing business to achieve safety, financial and operational targets.
- Champion Downer's Zero Harm culture and safety leadership.
- Drive business growth through strong client relationships and work-winning activities.
- Manage budgets, forecasting and overall P&L performance.
- Oversee contract delivery, tender submissions and commercial outcomes.
- Lead, coach and develop a high-performing team.
- Identify opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency and business performance.

ABOUT YOU

- Demonstrated operational leadership experience within surfacing, road infrastructure or a related industry.
- A genuine commitment to safety, quality and operational excellence.
- Strong commercial acumen with experience managing budgets and business performance.
- Proven ability to develop client relationships and win new work.
- Experience leading, coaching and developing high-performing teams.
- Knowledge of contract management, tendering and operational delivery.
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Finance or a related discipline will be highly regarded.
