Job Description Summary

Job Description

GE Aerospace Research is seeking an exceptional early-career researcher to join our Enterprise Optimization Lab as a Climate Science Research Engineer.

You will build deep technical expertise in commercial aviation emissions impact and first-principles modeling while developing the organizational intelligence and leadership skills that define Research’s technical leaders.

Enterprise Optimization is a multidisciplinary team that brings together advances in physical and digital modeling to drive system-level understanding, uncertainty quantification, and decision intelligence across GE Aerospace’s wide range of engineering, manufacturing, and service problem domains.

Your first three years at Research will include structured development to accelerate your growth: establishing your technical foundation in your home lab, undertaking strategic stretch assignments that provide breadth across our capabilities, and connecting with a cohort of early-career peers. Through independent research, structured projects, coursework, and mentorship, you will progress from a foundational researcher to a recognized technical contributor ready to make a long-term impact in aerospace innovation.

Qualifications/Requirements:

- Master’s degree in aerospace engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, or related STEM discipline.
- Must be willing to work from the GE Aerospace Research office in Niskayuna, NY.

Eligibility Requirements:
Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen. Due to the nature of our projects, US Citizenship is required.

Desired Qualifications:

You will stand out if you have one or more of these attributes:

- Prior internship, co-op, or research experience in a university, national lab, industry, or applied research setting.
- Exceptional academic performance with a strong research orientation (e.g., thesis-based work, publications, conference presentations, patents, or open-source technical contributions).
- Humble and inclusive: seeks to learn, welcomes feedback, and values different perspectives in technical debate. Creates an environment where others can contribute and do their best work.
- Focused and rigorous: uses data to make decisions, frames hypotheses, designs experiments, and strengthens solutions through iteration and learning. Connects research to real-world impact.
- Transparent and collaborative: communicates clearly with varied audiences, partners across teams, and builds alignment through evidence to deliver outcomes that matter.
- Demonstrated initiative and commitment to community or university involvement (e.g., mentoring, affinity groups, teaching assistantships, outreach, lab leadership, or service that strengthens the research community).

The pay range for this position is $90,000-$100,000 USD annually. The specific annual rate offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and work location. The position includes eligibility for the GE Aerospace AIR Bonus Program. You will be eligible for an annual bonus that is a percentage of base salary. Under current plan provisions, the bonus target for this role is 5%, and the actual bonus may increase or decrease depending on a variety of factors, including individual performance and company financial performance.
