The Opportunity:

For a Senior Buyer in the federal contracting and defense industry, I would shift the language away from transactional purchasing and emphasize strategic sourcing, supplier management, FAR/DFARS compliance, program support, cost control, and stakeholder partnership.

What You'll Get to Do

Join a high-performing procurement organization supporting critical government and defense programs. As a Senior Buyer, you will lead complex direct procurement activities for materials, equipment, and services that support program execution and mission success. You will serve as a trusted procurement partner to program management, engineering, contracts, finance, and suppliers, ensuring material requirements are fulfilled on schedule, within budget, and in full compliance with regulatory and contractual requirements.

In this role, you will apply strategic sourcing and supply chain best practices to drive value, mitigate risk, and support operational excellence. You will have the opportunity to manage high-visibility procurements, influence supplier performance, negotiate favorable commercial terms, and contribute directly to the success of government customers and critical national security programs.

Responsibilities:

- Lead end-to-end procurement activities for direct materials, equipment, and services supporting government contracts and internal business requirements.
- Analyze material requirements, review purchase requisitions, develop sourcing strategies, and execute competitive procurement actions.
- Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate supplier proposals to achieve the best overall value while balancing cost, quality, schedule, and contractual requirements.
- Manage complex purchase orders and subcontract procurements from award through closeout, ensuring timely delivery and compliance with program objectives.
- Partner with engineering, quality, operations, contracts, and program management teams to resolve supply chain challenges and support program execution.
- Conduct supplier performance evaluations and develop corrective actions to address quality, delivery, capacity, and commercial issues.
- Identify and mitigate supply chain risks, material shortages, schedule impacts, and cost escalation concerns.
- Support proposal activities, cost analyses, market research, and supplier negotiations to improve competitiveness and program performance.
- Resolve supplier-related issues including claims, returns, nonconforming materials, overages, shortages, engineering changes, and contract modifications.
- Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies, CPSR requirements, FAR, DFARS, and other applicable federal acquisition regulations.
- Manage procurement actions of increasing complexity and value while providing guidance and support to less experienced procurement professionals.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance procurement efficiency, supplier performance, and overall supply chain effectiveness.

Qualifications:

Required:

- Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of procurement, purchasing, supply chain, or subcontract administration experience supporting government contracts, aerospace, defense, or highly regulated industries.
- Experience administering purchase orders and managing supplier relationships throughout the procurement lifecycle.
- Working knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS), and government contracting requirements.
- Demonstrated experience negotiating pricing, terms and conditions, lead times, and supplier agreements.
- Experience utilizing ERP and Procure-to-Pay systems such as Costpoint, SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and procurement reporting tools.
