About this role

Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer V Job Description The Manufacturing Engineer V applies advanced engineering theory and principles to optimize industrial layouts and manufacturing production processes. This role focuses on analyzing existing operations, improving production efficiency, and enhancing quality standards by developing and refining processes, documentation, and workflows. The engineer creates and interprets engineering drawings and blueprints, collaborates closely with cross-functional teams, and leads continuous improvement initiatives across a factory-based environment. Responsibilities

- Study time, motion, methods, and speed involved in maintenance, production, and other operations to establish standard production rates and improve overall efficiency.
- Review worker logs, product processing sheets, and specification sheets to verify that records comply with established quality assurance specifications.
- Review and approve work assignments based on worker performance, machine capacity, production schedules, and anticipated delays to ensure optimal resource utilization.
- Analyze charts, graphs, and diagrams to illustrate workflow, routing, floor layouts, material handling, and machine utilization, and use these insights to recommend improvements.
- Evaluate production and quality data and reports to validate adherence to standards or identify deviations requiring corrective action.
- Recommend modifications to existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within the limits of equipment capability.
- Recommend revisions to methods of operation, material handling practices, equipment layout, and related processes to increase production output and improve performance standards.
- Develop and maintain process flow documentation to clearly define manufacturing steps and ensure consistent execution across operations.
- Create and maintain control plans to manage process variation and ensure product quality throughout the manufacturing lifecycle.
- Lead and perform Measurement System Analysis (MSA) and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA)-related work to identify, assess, and mitigate risks in manufacturing processes.
- Participate in or lead validation activities to confirm that processes, equipment, and methods consistently produce products that meet specifications.
- Support and execute Product Change Notices (PCNs) by assessing impact, updating documentation, and coordinating implementation across affected teams.
- Conduct detailed studies, such as 31-piece studies, to analyze process capability, variability, and performance, and to support data-driven decision making.
- Prepare and interpret engineering drawings, sketches, and common engineering computations to support design, layout, and process improvements.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports to guide manufacturing decisions and resolve technical issues.
- Collaborate with other manufacturing engineers, test engineers, and technical service personnel to drive continuous improvement and resolve production challenges.
- Provide leadership and mentoring to team members by offering technical guidance, support, and constructive performance feedback.
- Leverage critical thinking and innovative ideas to identify opportunities for improvement and implement effective engineering solutions.

Essential Skills

- Strong creativity with the ability to generate innovative engineering solutions for manufacturing and production challenges.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey technical information clearly and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving ability, with experience using data and reports to validate standards and identify deviations.
- Ability to work as a team player while maintaining a high level of attention to detail in documentation and execution.
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills and the ability to leverage innovative ideas to improve processes and standards.
- Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities to provide support, guidance, and constructive performance feedback to colleagues.
- Expert ability to create sketches and engineering drawings and perform common engineering computations.
- Expert ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
- Previous experience using computer applications and software related to engineering, including Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools.
- Bachelors degree in engineering required for responsibilities in manufacturing engineering.
- Approximately 5+ years of relevant manufacturing engineering experience, with prior exposure to industrial layouts and production optimization.
- Hands-on manufacturing engineering experience, combining academic preparation with practical industry work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Experience with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) to structure and manage product and process quality planning activities.
- Proficiency in developing and maintaining process flow documentation to describe and optimize manufacturing steps.
- Experience creating and managing control plans to ensure consistent product quality and process control.
- Background in Measurement System Analysis (MSA) and FMEA-related work to evaluate measurement systems and identify potential failure modes.
- Experience with validation activities, including confirming that processes and equipment meet defined requirements and consistently produce conforming products.
- Familiarity with Product Change Notices (PCNs), including assessing impact, updating documentation, and coordinating implementation.
- Experience conducting 31-piece or similar capability studies to analyze process performance and variability.
- Bachelors degree in engineering desired; a masters degree in engineering or a related field is acceptable and considered an asset.
- 10+ years of manufacturing engineering experience for high-level practice, including significant exposure to production environments and industrial layouts.
- Combination of formal engineering education and industry experience, aligning academic knowledge with practical application in manufacturing settings.

Work Environment The role is based in offices located within a factory work setting, providing direct exposure to production operations and equipment. The Manufacturing Engineer works closely with a team of approximately 13 other manufacturing engineers and test engineers, collaborating through a technical services structure to support and improve manufacturing processes. The environment is highly technical and data-driven, with regular use of engineering software such as CAD tools, as well as charts, graphs, diagrams, and computer-generated reports to analyze workflows and machine utilization.
