About this role

Our range of services include commercial lending across a variety of platforms such as CLO, USDA, Bridge, Mezzanine, and Preferred-Equity for both stabilized and new-construction properties.
Dwight is seeking a team player who has a “no job too big or too small” attitude. A proactive thinker with a can-do mentality who is ambitious and intuitive will prove successful. Dwight is looking for an individual who takes pride in their work and flourishes in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. Our ideal candidate will take direction from Senior Management well, offer creative and prompt solutions to issues, and provide meticulous attention to detail.
Why This Role
As an Asset Manager on one of the most active FHA/HUD asset management teams in the country, you will manage an assigned portfolio of multifamily loans under the guidance of senior asset managers while also supporting the broader team’s portfolio analysis and reporting. This hybrid role combines core asset management responsibilities — borrower and HUD relationships, consent requests, risk assessment, covenant compliance, and watchlist reporting — with hands-on financial analysis and process automation. You will gain direct exposure to the full FHA loan lifecycle from underwriting through disposition, with structured mentorship and the opportunity to grow your responsibilities and advance your expertise in FHA/HUD asset management.
Role and Responsibilities
Financial Analysis & Portfolio Reporting
- Collect, track, save down, and spread project financials (including operating statements, balance sheets, bank statements, rent rolls, and AP/AR aging schedules) on a portfolio-wide basis.
- Analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting with emphasis on debt service coverage, occupancy, and other key performance indicators; identify and discuss substantial variances and non-compliance.
- Maintain financial performance and occupancy data in the portfolio management system.
- Prepare and distribute monthly loan performance and watchlist reporting.
Asset Management & Risk Mitigation
- Support and serve as a key Borrower and HUD contact responsible for day-to-day oversight of an assigned FHA/HUD multifamily loan portfolio.
- Perform financial analysis, assess market information, and complete other due diligence required for risk mitigation.
- Assist in structuring and processing required HUD/Lender approvals for consent items, including loan assumptions, modifications, partial releases, partial ownership transfers, commercial lease approvals, easements, reserve disbursements, insurance losses, and property management changes.
- Conduct quality control of new loans alongside new borrower “welcome” calls to review HUD protocol and onboard new portfolio additions.
- Work closely with the Asset Management team, Originators, Borrowers, and HUD to monitor and contribute to “workout” solutions for troubled loans and/or loans out of compliance.
Triggers & Compliance
- Maintain a current risk assessment of the assigned loan portfolio — performance, watchlist criteria, compliance, and inspection results.
- Ensure loan covenant compliance requirements are managed effectively, including initial input, monitoring, maintenance of collateral, and debt service thresholds.
- Follow up on delinquent loans with the goal of minimizing delinquent payments and preventing defaults.
Reserves, Escrows & Insurance
- Prepare required HUD forms and process requests for advances from reserves held by Lender, including debt service reserves, initial operating reserves, reserves for replacement, and non-critical repair escrows; ensure criteria are met for final releases.
- Coordinate insurance reviews for changes in borrowers and management agents, as needed.
- Process insurance hazard loss claims and coordinate inspections, as needed.
T echnology, AI & Process Improvement
- Work with Asset Management and technology staff to integrate processes across systems and automate portfolio management workflows.
- Identify opportunities to apply AI tools and automation to streamline financial statement spreading, data collection, reporting, and document review.
- Continually improve the integrity of portfolio information and standardized reporting, while ensuring the highest quality case recommendations.
Collaboration
- Coordinate and work alongside loan originators, external counsel, HUD and other government agency personnel, loan closers, peers, and third-party vendors to deliver consistent, high-touch service to borrowers and partners.
- Carry out ad hoc and special projects as requested by Senior Management.
Required Experience & Skill Sets
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Real Estate, Finance, Accounting, or Economics.
- 1–3 years of experience in asset management, servicing, underwriting, or operations, preferably within multifamily real estate or commercial real estate finance.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills; proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including financial analysis and risk analysis.
- Excellent work ethic, attention to detail, and organizational skills; ability to handle multiple transactions and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with FHA/HUD loan documents, compliance, and related reporting requirements is a plus; eagerness to develop HUD expertise on the job.
- Experience with AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot), automation, or data tools such as Power Query, Power BI, SQL, or Python is a strong plus.
