role
Position Overview:
The Internal Audit Manager establishes and leads the design, execution, and continuous improvement of the company's internal audit function. The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of internal controls, risk assessment, and audit methodologies, along with exceptional analytical skills and sound professional judgment. This role requires a proactive, detail-oriented professional who can evaluate the effectiveness of financial, operational, and compliance controls across the organization; identify opportunities to strengthen processes; and partner with leadership to promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
What You’ll Do
Essential Functions: ( Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.)
• Draft and maintain the internal audit charter for board approval; establish methodology, working-paper standards, and quality practices for the function.
• Conduct an annual enterprise-wide risk assessment through structured interviews with functional leaders and a wider survey, with any necessary review of financial, operational, and technology data; translate the results into a risk-based annual audit plan for management and board approval.
• Plan and execute five to ten audits per year end-to-end: scoping, walkthroughs, control testing, sampling, documentation, and reporting.
• Issue clear written reports with rated findings, root-cause analysis, business impact, and practical recommendations; negotiate management action plans with named owners and due dates.
• Maintain the remediation tracking process; independently validate closure and report aging of open items.
• Administer the ethics and compliance hotline: manage the intake platform and reporting channels, log and triage every report, route matters to the appropriate owner, track matters to disposition, maintain confidentiality and anti-retaliation protections, and report volume, categories, and trends periodically.
• Conduct or manage ad hoc investigations of allegations including fraud, expense and travel abuse, conflicts of interest, policy violations, and misuse of company assets — planning the investigation, conducting interviews, performing data and document analysis, and documenting findings in a written report. Coordinate with the General Counsel on matters implicating legal risk, privilege, or outside counsel.
• Assess and implement third-party software: evaluate, select, and implement the hotline/case management platform and audit management tooling for the function, and build the supporting processes around them.
• Report to senior management and the board on plan progress, significant findings, hotline activity, and remediation status; communicate significant findings promptly rather than waiting for the annual cycle.
• Where needed, engage and manage co-sourced specialists — including a third-party internal audit or risk advisory firm — to supplement capacity, enhance audit procedures and methodology, and perform technical or forensic work: scoping, oversight, and integration of results.
• Advise on control design for new systems, processes, and acquisitions without assuming ownership of those controls.
What You'll Bring
Required
• Five or more years in internal audit, IT audit, public accounting, forensic/investigative services, or a comparable risk function, including audit work from planning through reporting.
• Experience contributing to a risk assessment and translating risk into audit scope.
• Working proficiency in IT general controls: logical access and identity management, change management, and vendor and cloud/SaaS risk.
• Strong written communication; able to produce a report an executive or board member will read and act on.
• Sound judgment and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive matters.
Preferred
• Hotline administration or case management experience.
• Investigative interviewing training or experience (CFE, or comparable practical background).
• Experience in a private equity–owned or sponsor-backed environment.
• Prior first-auditor or function-building experience.
• Experience selecting and implementing audit management or hotline/case management software.
• Data analytics capability sufficient to test full populations rather than samples.
• Familiarity with the IIA's Global Internal Audit Standards and a recognized control framework (COSO, NIST CSF, CIS Controls).
Education
· Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, information systems, or a related field.
· CIA, CPA, CISA, CFE, or CISSP (or equivalent), or active pursuit.
