About this role
Are you curious, motivated, and forward-thinking? At FIS you’ll have the opportunity to work on some of the most challenging and relevant issues in financial services and technology. Our talented people empower us, and we believe in being part of a team that is open, collaborative, entrepreneurial, passionate and above all fun.
About the team:
The React Core Development team designs and develops modern web applications using React for the front end and Java Spring Boot for the back end. The team works collaboratively across the full software development lifecycle, from technical design and implementation through testing, deployment and ongoing support. We focus on building secure, scalable and maintainable solutions while continuously improving our engineering practices and the user experience.
What you will be doing:
We are seeking a Software Engineer to craft and integrate UI components using React.js. You will help optimize front-end performance and maintain clear documentation for our front-end codebase. The scope, autonomy and technical leadership expected will reflect your experience and the level at which you join. You will contribute to the design, coding, debugging, maintenance, support, implementation and validation of applications while collaborating with stakeholders throughout the Software Development Lifecycle.
The key responsibilities of the role will be:
- Develop high-quality code for our products, independently or with guidance appropriate to your experience, and take responsibility for the quality of your work.
- Investigate and resolve client software issues and support the client software life cycle.
- Identify and implement corrective measures for code deficiencies, escalating or proposing alternatives when appropriate.
- Support project and product implementations at client premises or on AWS.
- Apply coding standards and, at senior level, help improve and promote engineering best practices.
- Collaborate in code reviews, technical discussions and knowledge sharing; senior engineers may also mentor less-experienced colleagues.
Applications are welcome from candidates at Junior, Mid-Level and Senior levels. While the core responsibilities of the role remain the same, the scope, complexity of assignments, level of autonomy and degree of technical leadership will vary depending on the level at which the position is filled. Depending on your experience, you will work with appropriate guidance or take independent ownership, recommend improvements to development and system standards, and contribute to implementation planning across the product life cycle.
What you bring:
- A degree in an IT-related subject, such as Computer Science or MIS, or equivalent practical experience.
- Knowledge of object-oriented programming languages and concepts.
- Knowledge of or experience with Java and the Spring Boot framework.
- Knowledge of database concepts and cloud technologies such as AWS or Azure.
- Knowledge of or experience with React.js, JavaScript, HTML5 and CSS3.
- Familiarity with React.js workflows, RESTful API integration, and front-end build tools and pipelines.
- Excellent spoken and written English communication skills.
Junior-level candidates:
- A sound foundation in software development and enthusiasm for learning and developing through guidance, feedback and hands-on experience.
- Academic, personal, internship or professional experience demonstrating relevant technical skills.
Senior-level candidates:
- Substantial professional experience delivering production software with React.js and related technologies – typically 4+ years.
- The ability to own complex work independently, contribute to technical design, troubleshoot challenging issues and support the development of other engineers.
Added bonus if you have:
- Experience with TypeScript and modern React state-management or data-fetching libraries.
- Knowledge of web accessibility standards and responsive design principles.
- Experience with front-end automated testing using tools such as Jest or React Testing Library.
- Familiarity with application security, performance monitoring and observability practices.
What we offer you:
- A work environment built on collaboration, flexibility and respect
- Varied and challenging work to help you grow your skillset
- Competitive salary and attractive range of benefits designed to help support your lifestyle and wellbeing, including: Private medical insurance for you and your family, non-contributory, in and out patient cover
