About this role
Introduction to the Job
As a Dynamic Systems and Servo Analysis Researcher , you will help advance precision-motion technologies used in ASML’s lithography systems. You will model structural dynamics, servo behavior, and multidisciplinary system performance to evaluate emerging concepts and guide technology-development decisions. Working within Mechanical Development, you will connect mechanical, electrical, actuator, sensor, and control-system behavior through modeling and simulation. Your analysis will help researchers understand performance limits, manage technical risks, and identify promising technology directions.
As a Dynamic Systems and Servo Analysis Researcher , you will also help strengthen modeling methods and reusable research capabilities across ASML.
Role and Responsibilities
You will lead focused modeling and analysis activities for advanced precision-motion and mechatronic systems. You will determine the right modeling approach for each research question and translate complex results into practical technical recommendations.
- Develop dynamic, finite element, reduced-order, and system-level models for precision-motion systems.
- Integrate structural models with actuators, sensors, drive electronics, control loops, disturbances, and representative motion profiles.
- Analyze structural modes, dynamic stiffness, compliance, frequency response, motion accuracy, control bandwidth, settling behavior, stability, and disturbance sensitivity.
- Identify dominant performance drivers, coupling mechanisms, sensitivities, technical risks, and system-level limitations.
- Select appropriate modeling fidelity and clearly document assumptions, boundary conditions, uncertainties, limitations, and analysis methods.
- Validate model predictions using engineering calculations, sensitivity studies, benchmarks, and experimental or system-level measurement data when available.
- Communicate findings and technically defensible recommendations to researchers, engineers, system architects, and technical leadership.
Education and Experience
- Master’s degree or doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Applied Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
- Significant professional or research experience in structural dynamics, control systems, precision mechatronics, or integrated system simulation.
- Experience applying modeling and simulation to complex multidisciplinary engineering systems.
- Experience with finite element analysis and tools such as ANSYS, Siemens NX, COMSOL Multiphysics, MSC NASTRAN, or comparable platforms.
- Experience with MATLAB and Simulink, Python, or comparable modeling and data-analysis environments.
- Experience generating or using reduced-order and state-space models is highly relevant.
- Experience supporting early-stage technology development, feasibility studies, or advanced engineering research is preferred.

Working at the cutting edge of tech, you’ll always have new challenges and new problems to solve – and working together is the only way to do that. You won’t work in a silo. Instead, you’ll be part of a creative, dynamic work environment where you’ll collaborate with supportive colleagues. There is always space for creative and unique points of view. You’ll have the flexibility and trust to choose how best to tackle tasks and solve problems.
To thrive in this job, you’ll need the following skills:
- Apply strong knowledge of structural dynamics, vibration analysis, feedback control, finite element methods, and numerical modeling.
- Analyze flexible structures interacting with closed-loop control systems.
- Translate physical architectures into consistent mechanical, electrical, and control-system models.
- Evaluate bandwidth, stability, servo error, disturbance rejection, settling performance, and actuator or sensor limitations.
- Correlate simulations with measurements and use data to improve model accuracy and credibility.
- Use MATLAB, Simulink, Python, or similar environments for modeling, automation, optimization, visualization, and data analysis.
- Approach open-ended research questions analytically and translate them into structured analysis plans.
- Collaborate effectively across mechanical, electrical, mechatronics, controls, research, and systems-engineering disciplines.
- Communicate assumptions, uncertainty, technical tradeoffs, and recommendations clearly to diverse technical audiences.
- Share models, methods, and lessons learned to strengthen reusable research capabilities.
