About this role
Job Title: Structural Analysis Engineer Job Description This Structural Analysis Engineer role focuses on the design, validation, and continuous improvement of heavy mobile equipment and large fabricated structures. You will perform advanced finite element analysis (FEA), validate designs through physical testing, and provide technical guidance across the product development lifecycle. The position requires hands-on experience in structural analysis, mechanics of materials, and heavy equipment design, with strong proficiency in ANSYS and CAD tools such as Siemens NX. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that products meet stringent quality, safety, performance, and schedule requirements. Responsibilities
- Perform advanced structural analyses using Finite Element Analysis (FEA), including linear, non-linear, static, dynamic, and modal simulations for heavy mobile equipment and large fabricated structures.
- Develop detailed engineering reports that clearly document analysis methods, assumptions, boundary conditions, results, and design recommendations.
- Review and provide technical oversight for FEA work completed by design engineers, ensuring accuracy, robustness, and adherence to best practices.
- Evaluate structural performance and recommend design improvements to enhance reliability, durability, manufacturability, and overall product performance.
- Plan and execute design validation activities, including strain gauge selection, instrumentation setup, data collection, and correlation of physical test results with analytical models.
- Perform engineering calculations related to mechanics of materials, welded structures, machine components, sheet metal structures, and overall structural integrity.
- Maintain, refine, and improve structural design standards, analysis procedures, and engineering best practices within the organization.
- Collaborate closely with engineering leadership and cross-functional teams to ensure designs meet quality, safety, performance, and project schedule requirements.
- Lead technical discussions and design reviews with Engineering, Manufacturing, Production, Purchasing, Sales, and Customer Support teams to resolve issues and drive design decisions.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to Design Engineers and junior team members in structural analysis, FEA methods, and design validation.
- Support new product development initiatives by contributing to structural design concepts, optimization, and validation strategies.
- Ensure all engineering activities align with company safety policies and procedures and support a strong culture of safety and compliance.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
- 3+ years of experience performing structural FEA and design validation, ideally on heavy equipment or large fabricated structures.
- Strong understanding of mechanics of materials and structural engineering principles.
- Knowledge of machine element design, including critical components used in heavy mobile and industrial equipment.
- Experience with welded and fabricated structures, including large structural weldments and assemblies.
- Hands-on experience using FEA software, preferably ANSYS, for linear, non-linear, static, dynamic, and modal analyses.
- Ability to interpret FEA and test results and translate findings into practical, actionable design improvements.
- Knowledge of strain gauge application, structural testing methods, instrumentation, and data analysis.
- Experience working with manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, sheet metal fabrication, and steel fabrications.
- Proficiency with CAD software, preferably Siemens NX (UG/NX), for mechanical and structural design.
- Experience working within Product Data Management (PDM) systems such as Teamcenter.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to tackle complex structural design challenges.
- Clear and effective communication skills for reporting, design reviews, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for documentation, reporting, and data analysis.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline is preferred.
- Experience supporting the design and development of mobile equipment, drilling equipment, mining equipment, construction machinery, aerospace products, or other heavy industrial equipment.
- Experience working with large structural weldments, fabricated assemblies, and complex steel structures.
- Understanding of hydraulic systems and electro-mechanical controls and how they interact with mechanical structures.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to heavy equipment and structural design.
- Experience in structural design, mechanical design, and structural analysis for new product development.
- Knowledge of system-level design that includes mechanical design, hydraulics, and electronic controls.
- Demonstrated ability to work with sheet metal structures and associated manufacturing techniques.
- Comfort working in cross-functional teams and participating in design reviews with engineering, manufacturing, and customer-facing groups.
Work Environment You will work in a professional engineering environment focused on the design and validation of heavy mobile equipment and large fabricated structures. The role involves regular use of advanced engineering tools such as ANSYS for FEA, Siemens NX (UG/NX) for CAD modeling, and Teamcenter or similar Product Data Management systems for configuration control and collaboration. You will interface closely with manufacturing, production, and other operational teams, requiring an understanding of machining, welding, steel fabrication, and sheet metal processes. The work typically follows standard office and engineering lab hours, with time spent both at a workstation performing analysis and in test or manufacturing areas supporting design validation activities and reviewing large weldments and assemblies. The environment emphasizes safety, structured engineering processes, and cross-functional teamwork, with a culture that values technical excellence, continuous improvement, and clear communication
